The Market Analyst will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by tracking, synthesizing, and reporting on a range of external perspectives through the lens of opportunities, risks, and implications for Owens Corning. This role spans our Market Insights and Economics functions to enable a holistic perspective of our market context and provide business and finance leaders with quantitative and qualitative analysis of economic and market data supporting strategy, forecasting, planning, and M&A activity. We are seeking a candidate who understands complex market and macroeconomic data sets and embodies excellence in leading primary and secondary market research, competitive intelligence, analysis, and synthesis to deliver impact, with an additional ability to independently define the problem/question and identify hypotheses. Drive Deeper Understanding of Customers and Markets
- Define and utilize processes, tools and techniques for gathering, analyzing, synthesizing, and communicating intelligence about the market and competitive environment.
- Track key market, customer, peer, and competitive moves through monitoring and synthesis of publicly available data, subscription data, and memberships.
- Strong knowledge of market research; ability to collect, collate, and analyze information about existing or potential markets and market needs. Evaluate key assumptions and variables that factor into the conclusions of market research. Design and conduct research studies in a market area, through quantitative (survey) or qualitative (interview) based methods. Experience working with and/or managing third-party vendors is a plus.
- Support analysis of economic and industry data, e.g., housing starts, GDP, demographic data; update existing internal forecasting models and support macroeconomic commentary updates.
- Design and maintain standard reports to update the Executive Committee and senior Corporate and Business Leaders on the state of our markets by identifying implications and recommending strategies.
Understand and Support Strategy
- Build relationships across the organization, cross-functionally, and with key stakeholders; ensure effective contact to remain aligned with business and project objectives.
- Partner across businesses and functions to incorporate outside-in thinking and analytical rigor for market-based decision making.
- Understand the strategic direction of the enterprise and businesses to support and enhance business results; be knowledgeable of the project work that supports this direction and implications to the enterprise.
- Lead and support data-driven customer and market insights to enable the creation of solid strategy.
- Support long range strategic planning, operations planning, and financial forecasting by providing insights into the industry and broader market and economic trends and risks.
- Focus on value-added analysis by automating routine processes and eliminating redundancies.
- Participate on key strategy projects, as requested by Corporate Strategy leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, mathematics, economics, statistics, operations research or related field. MBA or equivalent working experience is preferred.
- 2+ years' market research (vendor or client side) experience managing primary research (qualitative and quantitative) from designing instruments, fielding work, analyzing data, and developing reports. Competitive intelligence experience preferred.
- Capable of integrating and interpreting large datasets and distinguishing key findings and insights.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong intellect and growth mindset; curious individual with ability to combine analytical reasoning and qualitative input using creativity and judgment. Strong inductive and deductive problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional data / analytical toolkit, with proficiency in related tools (Excel, PowerBI, and at least one programming language such as Stata, R, or Python); experience with data architecture and information management a plus.
- Quick study, able to handle complex matters, with multiple initiatives going on simultaneously; able to deal with strategic issues, as well as tactical operational details.
- Enjoys collaborative work; able to build relationships, influence, and lead; must be able to exert influence and leadership across the organization without formal authority.
- Willingness to introduce risk thoughtfully, apply business judgment, and take accountability for the quality and application of the analysis.
- Exceptional organization and communication skills, particularly possessing the ability to translate complex concepts into simple/sound insights. Clearly and concisely conveys information, both written and verbal. Shares information, perspectives, and ideas openly with all levels of the organization.
