About the Role

MWH is currently seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to support critical infrastructure construction work in.

The Assistant Construction Manager supports the Construction Manager and project team in the execution, oversight, and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day coordination of construction activities, documentation management, contractor interface, and quality/safety oversight, ensuring the project is delivered in accordance with contract requirements, design specifications, and client expectations.

Essential Functions



  • Assist the Construction manager in managing the construction process from preconstruction through final completion and closeout.
  • Monitor contactor progress meetings, coordination meetings and safety briefings.
  • Track contactor compliance with contract documents, including scope, schedule, budget, and safety requirements.

  • Perform regular site walks to monitor construction activities and report field issues or non-conformances.
  • Support coordination between trades, utilities, and project stakeholders to avoid conflicts and maintain efficient progress.
  • Assist with responses to field conditions and contractor requests in collaboration with the Resident Engineer, inspectors, and team.
  • Maintain and track construction documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, daily reports, and meeting minutes.
  • Review and track contractor correspondence, submittals, and RFIs for completeness and compliance.
  • Assist with document management systems and ensure document control protocols are followed.
  • Help develop and maintain logs and reports for tracking project status, quality metrics, and deliverables.
  • Support the review and evaluation of change order requests and assist with cost estimating or negotiation support.
  • Track potential changes and trends to ensure budget visibility.
  • Assist in preparing monthly progress reports and cost tracking updates for the client and project team.
  • Assist in ensuring contractor compliance with quality management plans and project specifications.
  • Participate in safety audits and job hazard analyses; monitor and report adherence to site-specific safety plans.
  • Support the coordination of punch list generation and final inspections.


Basic Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (civil, mechanical or electrical), construction management, or equivalent degree.
  • 3-6 years of experience on municipal water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects, such as treatment plants, pump stations, pipelines, tunnels, etc.
  • Experience working within a CMS or Owner's Rep environment preferred.
  • CCM or PMP required, however consideration will be given to candidates willing to gain CCM or PMP within 12 months.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), union jurisdiction, labor agreements, and negotiations.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, supervisory and planning skills.
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Project P/L experience.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary for this position is between $120,000 - $160,000, based on expeirence.
