Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, support the management of a veterinary genetics research laboratory; coordinate laboratory activities; provide technical and research support; maintain equipment, inventories, and required documentation; prepare reagents; perform data analysis, manage data sharing and distribution; and act as a resource to the VGL Service laboratory. Under close supervision, and in a training capacity, learn to manage a research laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- No minimum education required.
- Experience in performing PCR procedures, operating various laboratory equipment, and work experience in a high-throughput DNA testing laboratory.
- Experience operating multiple genotyping platforms including SNP arrays and genotyping by sequencing and other sequencing methodologies.
- Knowledge of the scientific disciplines of genetics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
- Demonstrated skill to follow protocols for DNA extraction and quantification for multiple species and knowledge of sterile technique to prevent contamination of DNA samples and primers.
- Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Demonstrated ability to follow complex written and oral instructions and maintain organized and accurate records as well as follow laboratory protocols and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Genetics, Animal Biology, or related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics and chemistry to perform calculations and accurately prepare reagents, buffers, and make dilutions.
- Demonstrative knowledge to perform basic statistical tests.
- Knowledge of horse handling and/or pigmentation biology.

Department Overview
Be part of an internationally recognized and accredited laboratory that provides expert DNA testing for various animal species. The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory provides animal parentage verification, identification, forensics services, genetic diagnostics, and genetic research for a broad range of domestic species as well as primates and wildlife species. We are looking for a representative to work in this non-profit laboratory that is part of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and strives to provide highly accurate DNA testing for animals while also promoting education and scientific advancement in animal genetics. **VGL is currently located on the Davis campus but will be relocating to AggieSquare on the UC Davis Sacramento campus ~ tentatively Winter of 2025.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.
