Position description

Junior Specialist (Hasenstaub Lab)

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery / SCHOOL OF MEDICINE / UC San Francisco

The Hasenstaub lab at the Mission Bay campus of UCSF is looking to appoint a Junior Specialist.

The laboratory seeks to identify the neural circuit mechanisms underpinning hearing function. Current projects include 1) neural bases of audiovisual processing behaviors in mice, 2) mechanisms of transplant-induced cortical plasticity and reorganization, and 3) cortical mechanisms of hearing in complex environments. We are most interested in talented, motivated, enthusiastic candidates who want to ultimately perform independent research. The successful applicant must work closely with the PI and other faculty and their lab members to support the lab's mission. Candidates who are looking for additional experience in a biomedical research laboratory before pursuing graduate education or a career in biotechnology are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in the process of obtaining) a bachelor's degree, preferably in the fields of biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, computer science or related disciplines. Applicants materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission. Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire. Candidates should have strong communication (written and verbal) skills. Candidates should be detail-oriented and possess excellent organization and analytical skills.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with one or more of the following: animal behavior, animal handling, microscopy, molecular biology, instrumentation, in vivo or in vitro physiology, software development, immunochemistry, genome editing/CRISPR technology, and quantitative and computational analysis. We prefer candidates with a strong background neuroscience, who have the ability to perform independent research in addition to supporting the lab. Candidates interested in working in the lab for at least two years are preferred.

Applicants must apply online with CV (must list previous research experience and GPA on CV), Cover Letter, List of Prior Coursework, and the contact information for three references at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF05558.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $53,100 - $56,600.
