The Residence Coordinator (RC) is an eleven (11) month live-on staff member in the Residence Life Office at Davidson College. As a Division of Student Life member, the RC will join a committed team that cares deeply about students and actively works to promote a welcoming, socially just environment for all people. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Training, the RC's role is to support a meaningful residential experience, ensuring the residence halls are rich learning environments where students develop and learn the skills necessary to navigate life on campus successfully.

The RC will recruit, select, train, supervise, evaluate, and facilitate professional development for 8-16 student staff members in this role. They will meet bi-weekly with each student staff member and weekly to assess hall environments, student concerns and behaviors, hall trends, programmatic offerings, and the community's overall health. The RC will also help encourage collaboration between student staff members, provide ongoing job training, and build the area's residential teams.

The RC serves as a front-line responder in campus emergencies, often required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, and works closely with a diverse student population. They will assist student staff in responding to student issues, including roommate conflicts and physical, emotional, identity, or psychological concerns. The RC directly oversees the student staff duty process for their residential area. They will advise or assist staff in responding to incidents or potential policy violations in and around the residence halls. The RC will serve in the Live On on-call rotation, advising student staff members, responding to severe incidents on campus, and supporting students as needed.

This is a required live-on position with a limited duration of a two (2) year term, pending job performance to be evaluated year-by-year. Successful candidates will be subject to background checks due to the live-in nature of this position. This is an 11-month position, July 1 - May 31.

Qualified candidates:



  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, and one to two years of experience working in residence hall programming and residence life administration (R.A. or Hall Director) is preferred.
  • Event planning and management experience preferred.
  • Exceptional organization, communication, and counseling skills.
  • Experience in student development or related fields.
  • Professional manner/demeanor; positive image and tidy appearance.
  • Willingness to work with a team and accept various levels of responsibility.
  • Creativity and a desire to become incorporated into the College community and activities.


Compensation:

Compensation includes a competitive salary, professional development funds, a complete college benefits package, a furnished college apartment with full utilities, a complimentary high-speed internet connection, a YouTube TV subscription, and reserved parking space. RCs are permitted to have pets.

POSITION START DATE:

Negotiable. July 1 is preferred.

POSITION END DATE:

May 31 is expected.

Work Environment:

The Residence Life Office at Davidson College consists of a team of competent professionals committed to student learning and caring about students and each other. The staff includes an Assistant Dean and Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director for Housing Operations, Facilities and Budget Coordinator, Assistant Director for Recruitment and Training, three Area Coordinators, an Office Coordinator, and roughly 70 student staff members. The residence coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Training. It is an integral part of the RLO team called upon to assist in all areas of the program. Hours are non-traditional, and weekend work is required.
