The Opportunity

The Head of Mobility has the ability to make an immediate impact and contribute to success of Munich Re as a global specialty insurer. In the evolving mobility ecosystem, we are looking for a leader to drive the identification and development of differentiated insurance and risk management solutions for our clients. Additionally, this leader will drive a forward-thinking mindset and lead a team to turn ideas into tangible, profitable revenue-generating opportunities.

Responsibilities:

In this position you will:

  • Develop and execute the mobility insurance strategy: Identify business opportunities, assess market trends, and develop strategic plans to drive growth and profitability in the mobility segment including autonomous driving.

  • Product development and management: Oversee the development and maintenance of mobility insurance products to address target market and appetite, including policy wording, pricing, and underwriting guidelines.

  • Team leadership and management: Lead and manage a team of production underwriting professionals to achieve business objectives and ensure effective collaboration and communication. Lead and collaborate closely with actuaries, data analysts, product managers and claims associates who directly contribute to the success of mobility.

  • Stakeholder management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including claims, underwriting, and distribution teams, as well as external partners, such as brokers, agents, and technology providers.

  • Risk management and compliance: Ensure that all mobility insurance products and services comply with regulatory requirements and internal risk management policies.

  • Innovation and digital transformation: Identify and pursue opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, such as telematics and artificial intelligence, to enhance mobility insurance products and services.

  • Performance monitoring and reporting: Regularly review and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including premium growth, loss ratio, and customer satisfaction.

  • Budgeting and cost management: Manage the mobility unit's budget and ensure effective cost management to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Prefer 15+ years prior underwriting experience, grounded in commercial auto liability and/or innovation with 5+ years of prior management experience.

  • Strong technical and analytical acumen including the understanding of insurance and reinsurance transactions in the commercial auto and mobility marketplace.

  • CPCU certification, Actuarial Fellowship, MBA or JD preferred.

  • Demonstrated superior negotiation skills, facilitating and managing the complexities and difficulties associated with sourcing business through third-party production sources and the ability to manage key client relationships while maintaining profitable relationships throughout market cycles.

  • Strong ability to think strategically and demonstrated ability to contribute to new ideas and thinking within an industry niche.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and think strategically with clients, production sources and personnel at all levels throughout the Munich Re Group and the wider industry.

  • Experience in providing underwriter training, with strong skill set in giving straight-forward, clear direction, guidance and coaching.

  • Proficient in data extraction from proprietary mainframe systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including New York City (NYC), Princeton, and Philadelphia. The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. This role is designated for either NYC, Princeton, or Philadelphia and reflects multiple geographies. The offer will be adjusted per geography.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $232,400-$370,600, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the NYC job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
