The opportunity

As the Assistant Vice President of People Team Investigations, you will lead the People Team's investigative function, ensuring all workplace investigations are conducted using best practices that uphold SNHU's commitment to promoting a culture where employees feel valued and respected. Reporting to the Vice President of the People Relations and Total Rewards Team, you will oversee a small team of investigators and manage a personal caseload, balancing leadership with hands-on casework. As the central authority for all People Team investigations, you will ensure each matter is handled thoughtfully, promptly, objectively, and thoroughly, with findings documented and communicated to partners in a timely manner. We are looking for a highly collaborative people leader with expertise in employee relations, workplace investigations, and a commitment to promoting a culture of trust, fairness, accountability and compassion.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement team strategy aligned with University goals.

  • Establish and maintain SOPs, protocols, and SLAs for consistent, documented investigations.

  • Identify and recommend systems and tools to support investigative work.

  • Apply audit processes to ensure compliance with protocols and standards.

  • Identify case trends and opportunities, reporting recommended solutions to Vice President and other members of the People Leadership Team.

  • Manage a personal caseload, including complex and executive-level investigations.

  • Oversee all investigations to ensure adherence to process, including:

    • Intake and assessment procedures.

    • Development and execution of investigative plans.

    • Standardized, supportive witness interviews.

    • Comprehensive document review (e.g., personnel files, disciplinary history).

    • Credibility assessments, factual findings, policy analysis, and recommendations.

    • Drafting and presenting investigative reports with Legal review.

  • Maintain clear, confidential communication with stakeholders while preserving investigative integrity.

  • Ensure a communication plan is in place and followed for each case.

  • Collaborate with University partners on conflict resolution, interim measures, investigations, and post-investigation actions.

  • Uphold and guide adherence to the University's non-retaliation policy throughout and after investigations.

  • Promote equity and inclusion in all investigative work, aligned with SNHU's core values.

  • Provide consultation and education on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and support resources.

  • Partner with the Legal Team for consultation, updates, and support for external agency or litigation matters.

  • Stay current on relevant employment laws (e.g., ADA, Title VI, VII, IX); escalate legal matters as needed.

  • Ensure case tracking by calendar and fiscal year; conduct regular audits.

  • Analyze case data to identify trends and report findings quarterly to leadership and partners.

  • Collaborate with HRBPs, Legal, Title IX, Equity Officer, and leadership to ensure alignment with investigative protocols.

  • Identify and deliver training needs in multiple formats to ensure procedural fluency.

  • Stay informed on best practices and legal developments to enhance investigative processes.

  • Support the grievance process, including reviewing responses and ensuring legal review and documentation.

  • Build and maintain a productive, engaged team environment.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and University goals.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least:

    • 5+ years in employee relations, including performance management, investigations, and corrective action in a high-volume environment.

    • 5+ years in an HR, people leadership role.

  • Demonstrated expertise in employment law, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and other relevant federal and state regulations.

  • Experience leading and conducting complex investigations, carrying a personal caseload of roughly 5 investigations, 20+ investigations total across the team at a time, including reviewing and writing comprehensive investigative reports.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $110,590.00 - $176,978.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations. We expect this position to be hired in the following target hiring range $122,202.00 - $165,333.00.
