General Summary:

The IT System Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and support of the organization's IT infrastructure. This role involves working across a broad range of technologies, including servers, virtualization, storage, networking, cloud platforms, and security systems, to ensure the stability, performance, and scalability of the IT environment. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable technical solutions, supports business operations, and contributes to strategic IT initiatives. Strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential for this role.

Essential Job Functions:

Infrastructure & Systems Engineering



  • Designs, implements, and manages virtualization and backup infrastructure;
  • Administers hybrid cloud infrastructure, leveraging public cloud services to optimize, govern, and secure on-premise systems;
  • Automates routine operations through scripting or by using 3rd party platforms;
  • Oversees deployment and lifecycle management of servers, storage, and core systems;
  • Collaborates with DevOps or Application teams on infrastructure provisioning;
  • Works with Security team for regulatory adherence (e.g., NIST, PCI-DSS, SOC2);
  • Monitors utilization and capacity plans for future growth.


Networking



  • Supports LAN/WAN infrastructure, firewalls, VPNs, and other network appliances;
  • Monitors and troubleshoots network performance, ensuring uptime and optimal throughput;
  • Implements network segmentation and access control to support security initiatives.


Operations & Support



  • Serves as escalation point from System Administrators;
  • Develops and maintains documentation, SOPs, and architecture diagrams;
  • Participates in on-call rotations and incident response activities;
  • Trains and mentors teams on best practices;


Travels to remote sites or office locations as required to perform hardware installations or maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Highly skilled in virtualization and backup technologies;
  • Highly skilled in Windows Server operating system and management tools;
  • Skilled in problem solving and resolution;
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix server operating systems;
  • Knowledge of cloud/hybrid cloud services;
  • Knowledge of network design, firewalls, and other security tools;
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, YAML, etc.);
  • Knowledge of M365 Administration, Intune, Entra, Defender, etc.;
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, vendor deployment guidelines, white papers and configuration manuals;
  • Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner;
  • Ability to travel for business requirements; must possess a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.


    Education and Experience:

    Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with 5 years of professional experience or certifications plus experience equivalency.

    Preferred Certifications:



    • Windows Server Hybrid Administrator
    • Microsoft 365 related
    • Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
    • CompTIA Security +
