TITLE: Mixing & Blending Operator Lead POSITION OBJECTIVE: The position objective of the Mixer/Blending Lead is to oversee, lead, monitor, and coordinate the activities of the mixing/blending team's goal of the pre-mixing, post-mixing, pre-blending and post-blending preparation of raw materials and the mixing and blending operation of material to deliver the finished product to specification, as required, ready for production. The Lead is responsible for the quality of the product their team produces. Follows established procedures including standard operating procedures (SOP's), cGMP, food safety regulations, safety regulations, and safety procedures. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 3 - 5 years of mixing/blending experience, general manufacturing experience, industrial manufacturing, nutraceutical/pharmaceutical manufacturing, or related industrial manufacturing experience required.
- High School Diploma/Certificate; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
- Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
- Strong aptitude for math (e.g. good understanding of metric weights and measures), and good reading skills
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee, lead, monitor, and coordinate personnel by mixing/blending assignment needs.
- Adhere to daily work schedule.
- Provide employee training on documentation, processes, and equipment.
- Ensures that all paperwork is properly documented.
- Handle the collection and preparation of raw material.
- Assist in the pre-blend and post blend preparation according to cGMP's, SOP's, and approved formulations.
- Perform thorough work with resolve and follow-through on all pre-mix and post-mix processes.
- Communicate with mixing/blending personnel to identify and correct quality assurance issues throughout the process.
- Continually assess proper equipment set-up and operational issues, communicating same with off shift mixing/blending personnel and supervisor.
- Communicate and work with Quality Assurance
- Ensures the quality of the finished blend meets all specifications.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Report directly to the department Manager.
- Communicate regularly with Mixing Supervisor/Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Technician, and Quality Assurance to identify and correct issues immediately.
- Act as a liaison between operators and management by providing feedback for performance or any issue that could arise in the mixing/blending area.
- Responsible for overseeing all the activities of the mixing/blending operators.
- Stage raw materials and prepare for pre and post-mixing, pre and post-blending.
- Set-up and prepare raw material for pre-mixing and pre- blending processes, including but not limited to picking, collecting, screening, milling, weighing, scaling, sifting and moving materials pre and post preparation for mixing and blending.
- Responsible for setting up the working area and equipment pre and post processing.
- Prepare equipment for mixing and blending, prepare the working area, clean the equipment, keep the working area clean and clear of debris, inspect rooms and equipment daily.
- Conduct ongoing routine maintenance checks on all equipment in the plant.
- Schedule daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on all parts and equipment in use in mixing/blending process.
- Utilize Safety in the Workplace Best Practices
- Follow MSDS instructions and compliance with the Lockout/Tagout program, if and when applicable; adhere to safety policies and procedures at all times. Report any out-of-compliance items to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain required Standards of Quality throughout the process and perform Quality Assurance checks during each step of the mixing/blending process.
- Ensure the raw material is staged and picked according to specifications, ensure accurate weighing and scaling, check and doublecheck raw material item number, blend amount, weight, lot number and record information with precision and accuracy. Update the Mixing Recors for each batch record and update the Daily Mixing Log for each lot. Visually check for quality assurance and quality of blend throughout the process.
- Perform operational tasks and equipment maintenance as needed, requested, directed or instructed by the supervisor/manager.
- Able to assist with equipment preventive maintenance and operational tasks, as needed.
- Helps to maintain a positive working environment within the department.
- Helps in training co-worker's to fill in departmental needs.
- Resolve all issues with Department Manager.
- Do whatever it takes to accomplish tasks.
- May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
TRAINING:
- Working knowledge of Safety in the Workplace Rules and Regulations preferred.
- Working knowledge of cGMP's a plus.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRONIC DEVICES & SOFTWARE:
- Basic knowledge of Lockout/Tag out and MSDS
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
- Ability to stand for 8-10 hours daily
- Flexibility to work overtime, holidays, weekends, on short notice, as needed.
- Flexibility to work longer hours in order to meet deadlines, as needed
- Availability to workday shift or night shift, and accommodate change of shift, if needed
- Must have excellent manual dexterity
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks for a long period of time without making a lot of errors and getting bored.
