Pay Range

$41.93 - $61.57 Hourly

$41.93 - $51.33 Hourly for the 533.2 Level

$50.28 - $61.57 Hourly for the 533.3 Level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.


Job Description

We have an opening for an Explosive Facilities Maintenance Mechanical Technologist/Sr. Mechanical Technologist. You will provide engineering technician support for facility/infrastructure and programmatic related work activities, including maintenance, repairs, replacements, minor modification, and/or tenant improvements at the explosives facilities at S300. This position is in the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Facilities Operations and Support Division within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role, you will

  • Provide general technical support while applying fundamental knowledge of fabrication, assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance of systems and/or electro-optic technologies utilizing common well understood troubleshooting methods.
  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and disassemble moderately complex mechanical components and systems, using work control process and procedure requirements.
  • Apply intermediate knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes in solving mechanical problems.
  • Provide operations, maintenance, design, fabrication, assembly support, and maintain systems documentation and experimental records.
  • Perform detailed troubleshooting and maintenance, documentation and modification of basic hardware, software, and/or systems, and review and update procedures, manuals, and assist in the planning, organizing, and completion of projects.
  • Ability to participate in task on-the-job training, such as operational or equipment training.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with ES&H policies and procedures; ensure compliance with all federal, state, and LLNL regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 533.3 level

  • Provide advanced technical assembly and disassembly support of complex assemblies.
  • Design, fabricate, assemble/disassemble, and maintain complex mechanical components and systems including planning and selecting materials, equipment, and methods.
  • Assist in developing and authoring procedures, comprehensive troubleshooting and maintenance of systems, identifying problems, and providing input on solutions.
  • Contributes strategically by providing regular formalized reporting.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, formal apprenticeship or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience solving a variety of moderately complex technical problems in completion of work assignments.
  • Experience in mechanical fabrication and assembly.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Experience identifying, recommending solutions, and resolving complex technical problems using decision making, field experience, and judgement.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.

Additional qualifications at the 533.3 level

  • High level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and follow complex assembly procedures, engineering notes, sketches, and engineering drawings.
  • Significant experience working independently, under minimal supervision, on technical assignments and proven ability to meet project requirements and deadlines.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience fulfilling Work Control process and procedure requirements.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards.
  • Experience in 3D CAD.
  • Experience in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with rotating equipment repairs or pipefitting.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Pre-Employment Drug Test
