Lead Engineer - SPC New Product Development

Responsibilities, authorities and accountabilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned NPD projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work includes primarily mechanical engineering.
  • Is the leader or contributor on small teams of engineers and designers on NPD projects, conducting calculations, FEA, mechanical design, BOM definition, system definition, test procedures, while adhering to schedule and budget.
  • Applies existing technologies, approaches, methodologies in new combinations to design new products, systems, or processes. Viewed internally as a specialist in API 6A products and new product development processes.
  • Supports and maintains projects plans, technical roadmaps, technical risks, and product recommendations. Is confident presenting this information to engineering leaders within SPC and occasionally to senior leaders in SPC.
  • Protects Baker Hughes intellectual property, including submitting and reviewing patent applications.
  • Communicates solutions across SPC engineering and with cross-functional partners.
  • Prepares and conducts design reviews for NPD projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college. Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design of oil and gas production equipment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in design of wellhead and/or tree equipment. Preferably surface, but subsea will also be considered.
  • Experience innovating new products, evidenced by involvement in at least one new product development and/or patent.
  • Understanding of metal and elastomer sealing systems for oilfield applications.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects. Ability to document, plan, and execute projects.

Desired Characteristics

  • More than 3 years of experience in mechanical design of API 6A products. Full familiarity with API 6A.
  • Experience defining and conducting product testing.
  • Ability to perform simple structural FEA, preferably in ANSYS
  • Competency with CAD (preferably Creo) and ASME Y14.5m
  • Project management skills
