Apply now Title: Resource Planning Analyst Entry Department: Renewable and Carbon Portfolio Planning Location: Sacramento, CA, US, 95817-1899 Category: Miscellaneous Minimum Pay Rate:$85,384.00 Maximum Pay Rate:$113,027.20 Apply by Date:06/26/2025 Posting Type:Open SMUD is actively seeking a highly motivated Resource Planning Analyst Journey in the Renewable and Carbon Portfolio Planning team and is also considering filling this vacancy at the entry level Resource Planning Analyst. This position is critical within our department to help SMUD reach it's 2030 Zero Carbon Plan goal. This position presents an exciting opportunity for the qualified candidate to contribute to the most aggressive decarbonization goal in the country on a dynamic, fast paced team. The department will be filling one position at either the Journey or Entry level. If you are interested in the Resource Planning Analyst Entry level position you will need to apply to that position separately. Significant aspects of this role involve supporting SMUD's Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) and renewable energy credit strategies; assisting with compliance filings for the RPS and Power Source Disclosure Programs; and supporting work on the long-term outlook of carbon allowances and the California Air Resources Board's Cap and Trade program. To plan and perform technical, integrated studies that address operational, risk, financial and rate considerations of SMUD resource options and decisions to support development of optimum long-range generation expansion plans and identify specific projects satisfying future generation requirements to ensure SMUD an adequate, reliable and cost effective electric system. Nature and Scope
This classification is comprised of two levels: Level E is the entry-level where incumbents are provided formal training and/or certification for progression to the journey-level of the classification. The incumbent is promoted/progressed to the journey level J upon successful completion of all training and/or certification requirements for the classification. Incumbents hired at the entry-level are required to successfully progress to the journey-level within 18 to 60 months, depending on the length of the training and/or certification program. If an employee is unsuccessful with progressing to the journey-level they will return to last class held or separate from SMUD. Duties and Responsibilities

SMUD business strategies, planning and decision making processes; SMUD organization, accounting and finance practices; SMUD generation, power contracts, transmission, and distribution resources; current utility structure including lSO/PX procedures and applicable federal, state and local regulation; electricity power production, transmission and distribution operations; physical and contractual characteristics of WSCC regional transmission and generating systems; WSCC supply, operating and transmission planning criteria; economic, financial and business analytical techniques; SEC, CEC, WSCC and FERC reporting for purposes of acquiring utility financial and operating data for competitive analysis purposes; standard operating procedures for modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software; English grammar, punctuation and vocabulary standards. Conceptualize and develop an organized analytic approach to provide the information necessary to support corporate policy and business strategies; estimate marginal costs for SMUDs power, transmission, distribution and customer service components; perform production cost and financial forecasts with the aid of sophisticated computer programs; perform resource and financial evaluations; organize, write, edit and present analyses and information in both written and oral form; effectively manage complex projects and contracted consultant and assigned task force personnel; utilize a personal computer and/or computer terminal, systems and software relevant to the job; communicate effectively orally and in writing internally/externally; establish and maintain effective working relationships internally/externally.
