Job Description

Job Overview

Provide quality system support to manufacturing operations by performing Quality tests in the lab to ensure high quality products are shipped to our customers. This Function is also responsible to perform calibration tests on lab equipment to assure it is functioning properly.

Job Duties:

  • Acts as a safety leader and puts safety first in all responsibilities.
  • Plans daily activities to coincide with production needs.Receives product samples from Departments.Checks job specification sheet and performs quality tests as specified.Refers to quality assurance procedures as needed. Confers with superiors and shift supervisors to determine work status, priorities and potential problems.
  • Follows established testing procedures to operate a variety of lab testing devices,Sets up and adjusts machine controls to perform test, records results and compares data to specification or standard.Notifies shift supervisor of test results.Applies color-coded inspection tag to roll of product to show inspection results.Performs one or more tests as required by specification sheet.May divide test tasks or coordinate tests with another Lab Technician or Assistant.
  • May be required to troubleshoot lab equipment.
  • Demonstrates attention to details per the requirements of the customer
  • Advises shift supervisor on quality assurance issues and procedures.May perform product inspection or certain tests on shop floor, at machine, or in warehouse.May discuss quality problems and offer suggestions to improve product quality.May perform testing equipment start up procedures at start of work day or equipment shut down procedures at end of workday.
  • Prepares a quality assurance file on each job by collecting production order, roll label, specification sheet, sample and related data.Records test results.Generates and maintains SPC data and records.Operates computer terminal to key enter data on jobs, specifications and test results.Maintains a file of production samples.
  • May check and test in-coming raw material.Performs routine test to verify material based on established specifications.Notifies superiors of non-conforming material.
  • May train or instruct successor or fellow employee responsible to perform back-up assignments. Prepares and submits time records according to prescribed procedure.
  • May operate office equipment such as fax, copier and personal computer.Observes Company policies related to dress, attendance, housekeeping, safety, sanitation, and related practices.Performs a variety of special projects or related tasks as directed.Maintains records and files related to departmental work activities.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.Observes safety precautions and wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required.Follows procedures for proper handling, labeling, storage and use of chemicals.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor or management

Qualifications/Requirements

Formal Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • HS diploma or equivalent/Technical experience

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviors

  • Vision requirements of the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus to perform all functions safely
  • Must have the ability to distinguish color, must pass a color blindness test.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Frequent interaction with others.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team-based environment, assist others when needed and lead by example while focusing on safety, quality and productivity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with others in a team environment
  • Lean manufacturing experience desirable
  • Good attention to detail for data analysis in the manufacturing process.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for a 12 hour shift
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting
  • Frequent use of wrist and hands
  • Frequent stepping up and down from platforms
  • Exposure to a noise level above 85 decibels
