Scientist 3, Peptide Therapeutics

Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
Jun 13, 2025
The Position

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Genentech, a member of the Roche Group.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated peptide medicinal chemist with deep expertise in computational designs to become a key member of our dynamic research team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in peptide chemistry and computational design, with a proven track record in drug discovery.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of novel peptide-based therapeutics through the application of advanced computational techniques. As an integral part of our interdisciplinary and agile research environment, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, Structural Biology, Computational Sciences, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Safety to advance our mission of transforming scientific discoveries into life-changing therapies.

The Opportunity:

  • Design, synthesize and optimize novel peptides for therapeutic applications, focusing on potency, selectivity, stability, and drug-like properties.

  • Leverage structure-activity relationships to iteratively improve peptide function and pharmacological profiles.

  • Utilize computational tools to predict, model, and refine peptide structures, conformations, and properties.

  • Expand the chemical and structural diversity of our peptide libraries through innovative design strategies and incorporation of non-canonical amino acids or constrained scaffolds for drug-like properties.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with various therapeutic area biologists, structural scientists, and data scientists to integrate in silico design with experimental validation.

  • Analyze complex datasets, derive actionable insights, and generate clear, data-driven reports to inform project decisions and guide next steps.

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in peptide chemistry, computational design, and machine learning to continually advance our discovery efforts.

  • Contribute to intellectual property and peer-reviewed publications by communicating findings and novel concepts clearly and effectively.

Who you are:

  • Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry, Computational Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in industry, applying peptide design and chemistry methods to drug discovery.

  • Proven track record in structure-based and ligand-based design, with a solid understanding of SAR and peptide optimization strategies.

  • Extensive experience in innovative peptide synthesis strategies, including solid-phase and solution-phase methods.

  • Familiarity with a broad range of computational tools, including molecular modeling, docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, and exposure to machine learning frameworks.

  • Strong analytical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to thrive in a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred

  • Experience in drug discovery and development processes is highly preferred.
