Reporting to the Head, Global Workplace Experience, this person will oversee the Global Real Estate function, including leasing, capital projects, and space planning teams, ensuring successful execution of the real estate program for Capital Group.

The individual in this role will be responsible for the effective leadership and management of the real estate strategy, space planning/workplace strategy, design and execution of capital projects within the Capital Group Companies Global (CGCG) and related companies' portfolios.

The Director, Global Real Estate will manage Associates and oversee third party vendors, driving a coordinated real estate program across multiple teams to execute Capital's strategy.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

Leadership and Management

  • Oversee the development and performance of team members and participate in the broader governance of associates within the Workplace Experience team.

  • Ensure the Global Real Estate team is appropriately structured and staffed, coordinating the efficient delivery of the GRE program.

  • Participate in setting the strategic direction of the group, build partnerships between GRE and other functions, and drive the delivery of the LTSP and Leading at Capital Expectations.

  • Strengthen talent, drive engagement, and unlock potential within the department. Foster a work environment where objectives align with organizational goals and resolve complex issues with confidence.

Real Estate & Capital Program Strategy

  • Set the strategy and execute the Global Real Estate program to align Capital's physical environment with CG's culture, values, business requirements, and associate experience.

  • Collaborate with Workplace Experience stakeholders to develop and maintain a workplace design approach that aligns with Capital Group's key functional areas.

  • Achieve effective real estate outcomes by partnering with Workplace Experience, internal support functions (IT, Security, Legal, Finance), and business clients.

  • Identify process and design enhancements through regular project reviews and engage with industry partners, competitors, and thought leaders.

Capital Projects Delivery and Financial Management

  • Define and govern the real estate delivery program, ensuring a standard process to minimize risk and meet project objectives. Establish and improve business processes, operational practices, and the department operating model.

  • Maintain accountability for the success of all Global Real Estate projects.

  • Ensure rigorous financial management of the program, including financial modeling and planning. Oversee all financial reporting for GRE in partnership with business management and Global Finance.

  • Manage and ensure delivery of the capital plan, prioritizing projects and investments according to guidelines set by the department head and CFO.

Skills/qualifications:

  • 10+ years of space, design, and construction leadership experience. Construction and project management background required.

  • 5+ years of experience overseeing all aspects of real estate transactions, including financial analysis, brokerage agreements, RFPs, letters of intent, leases, and amendments

  • Program management experience leading multiple projects across teams. Experience in complex resource and financial management of a capital program

  • Extensive experience managing the entire capital projects lifecycle: requirements, leasing, design, contracting, procurement, mobilization, construction, commissioning, and closeout.

  • Experience in program management services, including commercial management, change control, quality control, performance management, cost management, resource planning, stakeholder engagement, communications, risk management, document management, and schedule optimization

  • Effective communication skills with diverse associates and consultants. Ability to collaborate and maintain relationships inside and outside the organization.

  • Excellent analytical and financial management skills, with the ability to provide consultative solutions and recommendations

  • Experience developing internal partnerships across the organization

  • Demonstrates professional service orientation, builds rapport with internal and external contacts, and maintains accountability across global projects

  • Ability to advise business leadership on project scope, budget, and schedule.

Working conditions:

  • This role requires site reviews and inspections at CG's owned and leased facilities including walking through active construction zones and surveying safety precautions and field conditions.

  • Work is performed outside of normal business hours across multiple global time-zones. Additionally, urgent response issues often require a 24-hour on-call commitment as needed.

  • This role requires occasional domestic and non-US travel of no more than 25% of the time.

Southern California Base Salary Range: $226,353-$384,800 New York Base Salary Range: $239,966-$407,942

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
