Summary of Job Duties:The Access Coordinator works under supervision and provides comprehensive support for the patient care activities. This position may meet, greet, and assist the public, answer telephones and/or may coordinate appointments, referrals, consults, tests and/or procedure, check-in and registers patients, check-out patients, and collects payments and issues receipts, verifies insurance coverage and manage assigned departmental work queues, responds appropriately to the requirements of third-party payers. Qualifications:

Level I - High School diploma/GED plus one (1) year of customer service or healthcare experience required.

Level II - High School diploma/GED plus two (2) years of customer service or healthcare experience required. Knowledge of basic medical terminology, pre-medical terminology- competent within 3 months of hire, registration experience preferred.

Level III - High School diploma/GED plus three (3) years of registration or scheduling in a healthcare environment required. Knowledge of basic medical terminology is also required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Good communication skills.

  • Computer/basic keyboard skills.

  • Telephone etiquette skills.

  • General knowledge of office machines, including printers and scanners.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • CHAA Certification preferred.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules, reschedules, and coordinates appointments using the hospital systems by performing visit notifications for patients.

  • Conducts pre-registration as needed, inputs and/or updates accurate patient information.

  • Create new patient charts. Clean and maintain equipment.

  • Pick up and deliver mail to the mailroom and ensure the waiting room is clean.

  • Issues school/work excuses, sends out no-show letters, and takes patient photos.

  • Responsible for canceling and rescheduling appointments as requested.

  • Conducts insurance verification and benefits explanation by running eligibility on patients; requests outside records and gathers outside medical records from referrals and files patient charts as needed.

  • Conducts authorizations and pre-certifications; tracks pre-authorizations and maintains referrals.

  • Enter the benefit and authorization information.

  • Collects and posts payments and issues receipts.

  • Responsible for reconciliation of daily deposit & batch dollars, and must complete the deposit agreement.

  • Counsels patients on all related financial information, i.e., hospital discounts and speaking with MCPG about payment arrangements.

  • Attends required training and/or in-services.

  • Attends staff meetings and participates in the orientation and/or training of new staff.

  • Participates in annual educational needs assessment.

  • Maintains required job skill competencies and completes skill assessment annually.

  • Completes and maintains documentation of continuing education hours.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
