The School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) announces a full-time position as Assistant Teaching Professor in our continuing and professional education (CPE) program, ASPIRE to Teach Alternative Teacher Licensure Program. We seek educators who excel in use of instructional technology, online curriculum facilitation, and instructional leadership in professional learning communities, coaching of practicing teachers, engagement in collaborative work, and a history of working with non-dominant communities.

ASPIRE to Teach is an alternative licensure program for general and special educators. We partner with Teach for America Colorado, several BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services) throughout the state, school districts, and charter schools providing initial teacher licensure and professional learning opportunities through our fully online learning content modules, candidate (teacher) coaching, facilitation of professional learning communities (PLC), and portfolio assessment process.

We are seeking an Assistant Teaching Professor who will be responsible for evaluating Alternative Licensed Candidates (ALCs) for completion of work required to be eligible for Initial Teacher License in Colorado, and the continued development, implementation, and coordination of the ASPIRE to Teach curriculum. This individual will also be responsible for service to the ASPIRE to Teach program, and will have the opportunity to conduct research as part of their role.

Assistant Teaching Professor, ASPIRE/ Alternative Teacher Licensure

What you will do:

Teaching (70%)




  • Support and mentor your caseload of candidates by:




    • Providing timely ongoing specific feedback and assess the performance on work submitted to online learning modules.



    • Providing timely ongoing specific feedback and assess the performance on work submitted to online video coaching portal.



    • Meeting 1:1 with candidates biweekly via video conference.



    • Tracking and report ALC module and portfolio progress.



    • Assess ALC online portfolio submissions.





  • Contribute expertise related to the ASPIRE program philosophical frameworks.



  • Design and facilitate ALCs in authentic Professional Learning Community (PLCs) experiences in person and on web-based platforms that supports their development as effective educators.



  • Foster relationships with ALC building administrators and mentors.



  • Communicate regularly with ALCs in regard to progress in the classroom and ASPIRE curriculum.




ALI Team and Collective Service Work 20%)




  • Provide ongoing support to other ALIs by offering resources and tools and sharing best practices



  • Ability to work collaboratively in an interdependent team.



  • Continue to refine and develop program curriculum content in collaboration with colleagues.



  • Ability to seek out, give and receive collegial feedback.



  • A disposition of curiosity, ability to hold multiple perspectives, and the skills to foster relationships with ALIs, ALCs, program staff, and administrators across multiple institutions.



  • Tolerance for ambiguity due to the dynamic nature of the program and work.



  • Meet weekly as an ALI team with Director to address program progress, concerns, future plans.



  • Meet as needed with the faculty and staff in the main School of Education & Human Development for collaboration and resource sharing



  • Engage in program evaluation activities




Research/scholarship/SEHD Program Collaboration (10%)




  • Initiate/conduct/collaborate programmatic inquiry/research and scholarship in to study the effectiveness of the ASPIRE to Teach program.



  • Collaborate with program areas across SEHD to inform program design and implementation that incorporates the strategies and successes of the ASPIRE to Teach program.


  • Collaborate with program areas across SEHD to participate in research initiatives and/or teach classes to allow for the sharing of expertise across programs


Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.




  • Terminal Degree specific to Education



  • At least three years experience as an Alternative Licensure Instructor with ASPIRE to Teach


  • Experience as a classroom teacher and/or building level administrator


Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)




  • Familiarity with Colorado curriculum standards and Teacher Quality Standards.



  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal alternative license policy.



  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in online learning environments, developing and delivering professional development, and supporting and facilitating professional learning communities.



  • Experience coaching or supervising teachers in the field.


  • Knowledge of and ability to design and implement research models to examine program effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated commitment to a socially just and equitable approach to education



  • Participating in, and therefore knowledgeable about, the systems building and workforce development work happening in Colorado.



  • Familiarity with a variety of state frameworks.


  • Expertise in action based research/research design models.


Conditions of Employment




  • Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.



  • This position can be fully remote, and the candidate can work anywhere in the United States, although we would welcome an in-office presence.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $80,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
