Job Summary:



Join the Colorado School of Public Health as a Post Secondary Engagement Specialist (Business Services Entry Professional). This position is a key member of The Hub for Youth Engagement, which houses a myriad of projects to provide funding and support to youth-serving organizations and schools to authentically engage youth in Colorado and beyond. The hub is part of the school's Center for Public Health Practice, and their flagship program is UpRISE, Colorado's youth tobacco control movement.

The Post Secondary Engagement Specialist will support UpRISE by recruiting and facilitating young adult and post-secondary student engagement, helping them to increase their knowledge and skills to support policy advocacy in local municipalities in collaboration with local public health agencies. This individual will provide youth engagement best practices coaching to local public health agencies, local youth-serving organizations, and schools who agree to host UpRISE coalitions. Additionally, this position will be responsible for supporting the Youth Action Board.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Recruit at least 10 post-secondary students/participants.
  • Facilitate learning experiences with post-secondary students/participants to increase their knowledge and skills related to public speaking and tobacco control advocacy.
  • Plan and execute an advocacy day in collaboration with other community groups.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to Colorado communities around best practices for youth engagement in tobacco control, mental health, community mobilization, participatory inquiry, and policy advocacy.
  • Co-facilitate in-person and online meetings for UpRISE's Youth Action Board, building young people's skills to engage in public health work.
  • Co-lead planning efforts for youth trainings and convenings, such as the Youth Action Board retreat.
  • This is a part-time (0.5 FTE) position and reports to the Director of The Hub for Youth Engagement.

Qualifications:



Minimum Requirements



  • A bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, public health, public administration, communications, or a directly related field from an accredited institution


Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications



  • At least two years of experience with community engagement.
  • At least two years of experience in youth engagement, directly working with other youth on a community coalition, board, or group.
  • At least one year of experience with community level advocacy.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in fostering a community that values a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in engaging with advocacy for public health.

Anticipated Salary Range:



The starting target salary for this position has been established as $48,300 - $55,000 per year.

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
