Utilization Review Coordinator for the UR department is a key memeber for Austin Oaks Hospital. THe UR Coordinator is responsible for admission and continued stay reviews. They serve as liaison with medical staff and other clinical departments and obtain authorizations for admission and continued stay, appeals in appropriate reimbursement denials.

Job Duties:

  • Performs reviews for appropriateness of admission and continued stay relative to patient diagnosis, treatment and progress by contacting 3rd party payers to obtain authorizations for admission and continued stay.
  • Serves as liaison with medical staff and other clinical departments.
  • Appeals inappropriate reimbursement denials with representatives of third party payers in light of patient diagnosis, treatment and progress.
  • Meets with medical staff and staff of other clinical departments to monitor patient care and progress.
  • Establishes and maintains close working relationships with physicians, nursing staff, business office staff, therapists, hospital staff and representatives of third-party payers.
  • Maintains current knowledge of policies and practices, protocols and practices for assigned areas. Other self-development initiatives and maintains required licensure/certifications of job; has gained additional formal qualifications beyond the minimum requirements of the job; or has learned additional job duties and skills; has followed up on any personal development plans.

Qualifications

Requirements

EDUCATION: Required: B.A.
Preferred: Masters degree; Social Work, Counseling, or related field.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR; Preferred Licensed Mental Health Professional; LPC, LMSW, LCSW or RN.

EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in a health care setting, preferably inpatient. Minimum of two (2) years experience in UR.
Preferred: Five years experience in mental health in an inpatient facility. Five years UR experience.
