McDowell Center for Children (a UHS facility): McDowell Center is a 28-bed residential treatment facility located in Dyersburg, Tennessee, for adolescent males experiencing mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. Our staff is made up of licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors who offer 24-hour support for our patients. We provide young men with the skills they need to improve their thinking patterns, make healthier choices, and create new futures with improved outlooks and outcomes. https://mcdowellcenterforchildren.com/ POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for managing and organizing the daily operations of the facility to include maintenance and grounds keeping while maintaining compliance with all applicable codes, standards of government and regulatory agencies. This position also serves as the facility's Safety Officer and serves on Safety/Risk Management Committee. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance and installation of plant equipment; clearly defining roles/responsibilities and managing personnel effectively and productively. Prepares work schedules for departmental personnel to ensure adequate staffing; prioritizing work effectively to minimize overtime and adhere to FTE per census standards. Assures the maintenance of buildings, grounds and utility systems for the Hospital(s) in accordance with the organization's policies and all State, Federal and JCAHO standards. Maintains effective working conditions in all aspects of plant operations, grounds, safety and security department operations. Maintains productive, effective communication and interactions with employees, departments and medical staff. Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program and provides technical assistance when needed Maintains all records relating to the Environment of Care in an organized fashion that is easily retrievable for review by Administration and others. Coordinates use of outside vendors for plant maintenance and grounds. Examines buildings to determine need for repairs or replacement of furniture or equipment, and makes recommendations to management. Orders supplies in a cost effective manner while following facility purchasing procedures to ensure an adequate supply is maintained. Ensures Safety Data Sheets are current for all products being utilized and information is immediately accessible in proximity to corresponding chemicals; introduces new chemicals/agents strictly through proper protocol. Develops, implements, monitors and supervises the Safety elements; reports program elements to EOC committee for further evaluation and action.
Manages Fire Safety; conducts drills and provides critical feedback for EOC Monitors the Hazardous Material Mgmt. policies to ensure employee training, dissemination of SDS, etc. and handles audits for compliance Communicates and reports to EOC on matters including but not limited to Safety Inspections, Security, Fire Safety, Equipment, Utility and Life Safety; responsible for maintaining and disseminating information of these matters. Participates in development, implementation and review of safety policies and procedures; monitors the effectiveness of policies and practices and follows up to ensure compliance. Responsible for centralization and maintenance of all records, reports, and minutes and manuals detailing and documenting the Safety function. Responsible for intervening in any procedure or action that presents an immediate threat to life, health, and/or property; reports such actions to Safety Committee, Risk Management and CEO. Conducts departmental new hire training and in-service training to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment. Performs personnel management activities including direct staff supervision, orientation/training/development, performance management and employee relations functions; adheres to HR policies/procedures, and applicable employment laws, standards and regulations Reviews safety, risk management, and incident reports to identify and discuss trends with staff. Demonstrates an understanding of departmental budget management and provides information as requested.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Must have good knowledge of the English Language.
- Must be computer literate. Prefer experience with Microsoft Office or similar products.
- Willingness to cross train in other areas.
- Valid TENNESSEE Driver's License
- Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to McDowell Center for Children's Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, attendance at/required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issues to the Compliance Officer.
Education:
- High School diploma, GED or Higher Education required
Experience:
- 5-8 years experience in working in a maintenance setting
- Vocational Experience Preferred
