Venable LLP's Privacy and Data Security team within our Technology & Innovation Group seeks a Public Policy Analyst to join the practice in the Washington, D.C. office for a two year term beginning in late spring/early summer of 2026.

Venable has the oldest and deepest privacy practice in the country, with extensive experience in an array of industries, including advertising, AI, automotive, banking and consumer finance, communications, emerging technologies, media, and retail, among others. In our role as strategic advisors, our team engages in both policy creation and the provision of legal services to clients in high-stakes investigations and litigation.

The Analyst will be part of a dedicated nimble team that supports the Privacy and Data Security attorneys by helping to provide support in public policy coverage, event execution, and administrative support, amongst other key areas of impact. The successful candidate has a demonstrated record of academic success, is detail-oriented, thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at multi-tasking, works well individually as well as part of a team, and works well with and without direct supervision.

Some Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Inform and support the execution of strategic public policy objectives, including tracking legislative and regulatory developments, our progress, timelines, and deliverables; preparing for meetings, conference calls, and webinars; and executing on next steps with internal and external partners
  • Monitor key policy developments at state and federal level, communicating issues and our actions to stakeholders
  • Structure execution plans on public policy initiatives, and external events, and the like
  • Develop written briefing and report materials for internal and external audiences, including communications with the Hill, via newsletters, and other distribution channels
  • Help ensure compliance on lobbying, ethics, and political action committee rules and procedures
  • Provide administrative support
  • Identify ways to improve our analyst processes, communications, tracking frameworks, and results

Requirements

  • The qualified candidate must complete a bachelor's degree program prior to joining the firm
  • Willing to work within Venable's work environment which requires 3 designated team days in our DC office and as needed
  • Willing to work overtime and/or hours beyond the standard workday, whenever needed, to meet deadlines related to monitored hearings, etc.
  • An interest and/or understanding of the legislative and regulatory process, with a specific interest in privacy, data security, and AI as an added plus
  • A passion for process, strong project management skills, and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, with the ability to write for clarity and influence in line with position writing style guide
  • Organizational skills, with excellent follow-through and a positive attitude in a dynamic work environment
  • Intellectual curiosity, openness to feedback, positive disposition, and a team-player mentality
  • Relentless focus on execution and results
  • Relevant internship and/or professional experience is preferred, but not required

The anticipated base salary for this position is $65,000 year. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
