Overview

Under general supervision, maintain effective operational communications by way of radio, Nextel, telephone, Gas Mobile Dispatch or any other communication channels.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, maintain effective operational communications by way of radio, Nextel, telephone, Gas Mobile Dispatch or any other communication channels.
  • Disseminates all necessary information to responsible parties in a time critical manner and perform functions such as: Dispatch, receive and relay operational communications and coordinate all gas activities and other functions directed by the Distribution Supervisor.
  • Receive emergency and non emergency calls directly or indirectly, organize these calls with respect to established priorities.
  • Efficiently disseminate the work to field forces utilizing the Gas Mobile Dispatch system or processing the jobs manually keeping accurate records and time logs. Dispatch emergency locate tickets to field locators.
  • Follow notification and call out procedures accurately as required.
  • Provide assistance to field forces such as communication with outside agencies, internal organizations and customers.
  • Perform related or less skilled duties as assigned.
  • Perform activities in accordance with Company Safety Rules, Good Housekeeping Practices and Company policies.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
Relevant Work Experience
  • The selected candidate must pass the validated Service Operator 2nd Class entry test. Required
  • The selected candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written English language communication skills, and be detail oriented to complete summary reports based on field activities. Required
  • Selected candidates for this position must possess the technical knowledge and gas experience to read & interpret gas maps. Required
  • Selected candidates must be knowledgeable of the Environmental and Safety procedures pertaining to Gas Operations, be proficient in the use of Company mainframe systems such as WMS and CIMS as well as Windows & Microsoft Office products, and have a working knowledge of the Gas Mobile Dispatch System. Required
  • Selected candidates must have the ability and confidence to mobilize field crews to respond to inside and outside gas leaks, contractor damages, and other emergencies in the required timeframes, and assist the Distribution Supervisor in making timely notifications as conditions dictate. Required
  • Selected candidates shall possess excellent organizational skills to interface with other organizations/agencies and be able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously under stressful conditions. Required
  • The selected candidate will be ineligible to bid out of this job classification for a period of twenty - four (24) months however progression to 1st class gas service operator shall commence in 18 months. Required
  • In addition to operating eight (8) hour shifts in accordance with Article III, twelve (12) hour shifts maybe implemented with mutual consent of both Union and Management. Required
