Position Title: Instructional Assistant - Bilingual (Spanish) Department: Early Learning Location: antkwak Early Childhood Center (Hillsboro) Reports To: Program Administrator Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule - Range F $22.39 - $26.73 per hour, DOE Bargaining Unit: OSEA FTE: 0.9375 FTE - 37.50 LIMITED-TERM POSITION FOR 25/26 SCHOOL YEAR NW REGIONAL ESD'S MISSION STATEMENT: In partnership with the communities we serve, Northwest Regional ESD improves student learning by providing equitable access to high quality services and support. General Description: Bilingual instructional assistants work under the overall supervision of the building principal, with direct instructions provided by early learning or special education teachers. They are employed to carry out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel, which includes implementing activities related to the student's IEP or IFSP in individual and small groups. The position monitors student safety and behavior in various settings. Duties can vary based on the age of the students served and the nature of student(s) needs. A bilingual instructional assistant is defi ned as one who is fl uent in both English and the primary language of the students identifi ed as English language learners, and shall demonstrate cultural competency related to the students in the bilingual classes to which the bilingual instructional assistant is assigned. (Spanish) This job description describes in general terms the normal duties that the assistant will be expected to undertake. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. High School Diploma or equivalent required. 2. Fluent in English and Spanish, required 3. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in both English and Spanish 4. Ability to physically assist students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.) 5. Ability to lift students from a wheelchair to the fl oor and back, and on and off a changing table. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under the direction of others 3. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team 4. Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations 5. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor 6. Proficient in the use of computer and internet-based applications, including but not limited to email, internet software, Google Suite, and word processing (MS Word) 7. Certificates as determined by the ESD including a valid driver's license and CPR certifi cate as well as instruction in bloodborne pathogens. Other training as required by the ESD. Essential functions : Include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other Duties may be assigned . The duties listed below are not inclusive, but characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position. A. Prepare instructional materials under direction of licensed educator B. Provide instruction under the direction of licensed educator C. Communicate orally, read, and write in English and Spanish to support learners in the classroom and their families when they participate in classroom activities D. Translate notes from the teacher to the family regarding daily activities, and from the family to the teacher regarding the student E. Demonstrate cultural competence related to students who are English language learners (Spanish speaking) and their families F. Assist teacher in working with students to complete assignments G. Assist teacher in grading and recording students' assignments; maintain and distribute student records as requested H. Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills I. Take and maintain data as needed and required by licensed teacher J. Assist students with toileting needs as directed K. Maintain students' safety and monitor appropriate behavior at recess, in class and during bus loading and unloading. Notes discipline issues and completes proper paperwork for reporting such incidents L. Participate in restraint training as required M. Attend staff and team meetings N. Maintain confidentiality O. Be proactive in matters related to health and safety P. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality Q. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels R. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. A. Wash and dry children's clothing as needed. B. Wash dishes and toys as advised. C. Sanitize desks, tables, straws, oral motor equipment and other items as advised. D. Arrange classroom furniture as advised.
