Job Description:

The Director of Cargo Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of cargo operations across the organization's network, ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant movement of goods. This role involves strategic planning, operational execution, regulatory adherence, and cross-functional leadership to optimize cargo performance, customer satisfaction, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and continuously improve all cargo handling operations including warehouse management, ground handling, freight forwarding, and logistics support.
  • Ensure safe, timely, and efficient loading, unloading, storage, and delivery of cargo.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Develop and execute long-term cargo operations strategy aligned with the company's overall goals.
  • Analyze operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for growth or improvement.
  • Collaborate with commercial and finance teams to forecast demand and manage resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with all international and domestic regulations, including IATA, TSA, FAA, CBP, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Oversee implementation of safety programs and conduct regular audits to maintain operational integrity.
  • Monitor and mitigate risk associated with cargo handling, transport, and storage.
  • Lead and mentor a team of cargo managers, supervisors, and frontline staff across locations.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-centric service.
  • Manage staffing levels, training programs, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key clients, airlines, vendors, customs officials, and regulatory bodies.
  • Address escalated service issues and develop solutions to meet or exceed client expectations.
  • Support sales and business development with operational insights and capabilities.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance cargo tracking, warehouse operations, and real-time reporting.

  • Fully understand AGI Health & Safety and Security policies.
  • Attend training courses as may be required by AGI.

Qualifications

Skills & Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Aviation, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in cargo or logistics operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Strong leadership, people management, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in air cargo, freight forwarding, or multimodal transport preferred.
  • Proven track record in operational optimization, cost control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Deep knowledge of cargo regulations, handling procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in cargo management software, ERP systems, and MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage operations across multiple locations.

Work Conditions:

  • This role may require travel to operational sites, warehouses, or international locations.
  • Availability to respond to urgent operational issues outside of normal business hour

Physical Requirements:

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to use close vision and ability to adjust focus.
