THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship offers a valuable chance to acquire practical experience in resource management, recreational activities, and other aspects of a working forest. As a Forestry Intern, you will engage in essential maintenance tasks related to state forest lands, trails, and recreational areas, focusing on aspects such as recreation management, pest and disease control, and fire prevention strategies. Additionally, you will gain insights into the construction and management of trails, facilities, and open spaces, while learning proper silviculture techniques for tree cultivation. You will also familiarize yourself with timber tallying methods and participate in meetings to prepare for upcoming projects and ongoing maintenance efforts, all while understanding and applying safety protocols. This position will not only allow you to explore the natural environment but also help you build essential skills for a future career in environmental science or conservation.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could be for the 2025-2026 school year until 6/30/2026
  • Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship could be for the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year
  • This internship is located at Sproul State Forest District Office, 15187 Renovo Road, Renovo, PA 17764
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age at time of hire.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.

Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating that you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to the use of the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
