Campus Statement Chandler-Gilbert Community College invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC), one of the ten Maricopa Community College District (MCCD) serving the greater metropolitan area of Phoenix, Arizona. CGCC was founded in 1985 to serve the higher education needs of the Southeast Valley and was accredited as an independent college in 1992 by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association. CGCC's three campuses serve more than 19k students each year. Offering over 70 Associate degrees and certificates. CGCC just launched its first Bachelor of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Job Summary Reporting directly to the College President, the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) serves as the Chief Academic Officer by leading, planning, organizing, and administering all academic and instructional support areas of the college. The VPAA is a vital member of a dynamic senior leadership team and an innovative college culture that is fully committed to student success. CGCC faculty value excellence in teaching and learning and partners with administration to actively practice a robust approach to shared governance. A successful candidate will have the ability to build and enhance relationships and partnerships with faculty and the broader college community to empower collaboration and innovation to support teaching and learning. The VPAA should be a systems thinker with proven ability to skillfully navigate the complexity of an independently accredited college that operates within the context of one of the nation's largest community college systems. The next vice president must demonstrate a collegial and growth-minded approach, while advocating for CGCC through the lens of the larger Maricopa district mission of student success. Major initiatives and opportunities will include Academic Planning, HLC Accreditation Efforts, High-Impact Practices (HIPs), Integrated Planning, All-In Retention Efforts, Aspen Unlocking Opportunities, and expansion of Bachelor's degrees. Essential Functions Program Excellence: Academic Leadership, Program Review, and Accreditation. Provides oversight to the College's academic programs and assessment activities, including the development and implementation of an Academic Plan that aligns with the Strategic Plan of the college. Plans and monitors program reviews for general education, workforce development, dual and concurrent enrollment, and community education programs. Provides leadership for Academic departments across numerous disciplines, as well as: Honors, Library, Higher Learning Commission and specialized accreditations, Testing, Computer Labs, Curriculum and Scheduling, and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA). New Initiatives, Innovation, and Partnerships: Champions, designs, and leads initiatives leveraging community partnerships and business relationships to maximize learning opportunities for all learners. Builds and maintains relationships with community partners, K-12 school districts, universities, and business and industry leaders. Serves as a member of college and district councils and committees. Leads development and implementation of innovative learning delivery methods. Leadership and Supervision: As the Chief Academic Officer, the VPAA oversees the college's faculty, including hiring, faculty load assignments, project monitoring, evaluation, appointive status, and other personnel matters. Establishes, maintains, and enforces strict compliance with academic credentials and qualifications. Promotes and leads planning for the integration of innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Resolves conflict, including instructional grievances and complex legal issues. Advocates and engages a commitment to building a collegial college environment, including shared governance, commitment to community outreach, and program development. Engages in courageous conversations and collaborative decision-making, impacting academic affairs and the college. Academic Program Efficiency and Effectiveness: Plans for effective use of resources; examines operations and quality of service delivery to ensure maximum effectiveness. Provides oversight and supervision for the curriculum process, classroom-based courses, and synchronous/asynchronous course delivery. Works with faculty chairs to develop and design curriculum program reviews. Participates in the College's strategic planning processes and works with staff to develop both short- and long-term goals and objectives. Continually monitors the College's progress on numerous initiatives and strategic goals; develops strategies; and makes recommendations regarding allocation of College resources. Develops, prepares, and monitors budgets; oversees strategic scheduling initiatives. Provides leadership in collaboration in the development of the Academic Plan, college catalog, and other related academic affairs publications and documents. Collaborative Partnerships: Collaborates with industry partners, surrounding cities, and occupational faculty to provide resources and programs (Aviation, Artificial Intelligence, Nursing, Mortuary Science, etc.) to support the growing workforce needs of the East Valley. Collaborates and strengthens partnerships with K-12 partners and Student Affairs colleagues on early college programming related to dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, ACE (Achieving a College Education), and Hoop of Learning. Provides collaborative leadership with the members of the Chandler-Gilbert Community College President's Leadership Council; collaborates with Vice Presidents from other Maricopa Community Colleges, and the District Office Provost / Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs to provide executive leadership support, and the development of operational processes and procedures that will affect the system-level strategic transformation. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in a teaching field and four (4) years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three (3) years of full-time undergraduate teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/ supervisory experience include but are not limited to: division/department chair, project management, policy development leadership, administration, evaluation and compliance leadership, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance leadership.
