Position Summary:



A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Oliveira Lab in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Yeshiva University's Beren Campus in midtown Manhattan. The expected start date is flexible, though preferably on or around December 1, 2025. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on performance and professional conduct.

The Oliveira Lab aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of light emission in bioluminescent organisms and harness novel luminescent proteins and substrates for next-generation imaging and reporter technologies.

The successful candidate will work on characterizing and engineering a novel group of calcium-responsive photoproteins from bioluminescent marine invertebrates, as well as developing calcium sensors. Multiple research directions are available, depending on the candidate's expertise and interests.

Position Responsibilities:



Responsibilities include



  • Designing, executing, and analyzing experiments; mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
  • Preparing manuscripts and posters
  • Assisting with grant writing
  • Attending conferences and workshops



Experience & Educational Background:




  • A Ph.D. in molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a closely related field is required



Skills & Competencies:




  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a related field, with expertise in protein expression and purification, cloning, and next-generation sequencing
  • Experience with insect or mammalian cell expression systems is desirable but not required
  • Candidates must demonstrate critical thinking, the ability to work independently, strong verbal and written communication skills, and enthusiasm for learning new techniques
