DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Domestic Animal Health Inspector, you will work closely with veterinarians, health professionals, and stakeholders to conduct epidemiological investigations to determine domestic animal exposure, disease source and risk factors, and potential spread related to diseases such as rabies and avian influenza. With a comprehensive working knowledge of the rabies virus and Pennsylvania rabies laws, you will be be responsible for conducting thorough rabies investigations and explaining applicable laws and disease epidemiology to all parties involved. Additional duties entail managing suspected domestic rabies cases and ensuring that necessary quarantines are implemented for potentially exposed domestic animals. You will also be responsible for investigating complaints of the disposal of animal products and waste, as well as imposing quarantines in order to eradicate, contain, or otherwise control a dangerous transmissible disease or to control or prevent contamination by a hazardous agent. Within this role, you may be required to issue criminal citations, provide evidence, and appear at legal proceedings as a representative of the department. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- This position is home headquartered for those residing in or within 5 miles of the following counties: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, and Schuylkill counties. Candidates who do not live in the listed counties or within 5 miles will report to the work location at the regional office (1015 Bridge St., Ste 100, Collegeville, PA 19426).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved Veterinary Medical Technology Training program and two (2) years of experience in the raising or handling of animals used for a variety of commercial purposes including food animals and farm animals; or
- A bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, or a closely related area with at least 16 credits in animal science; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires current certification as a Poultry Technician or the ability to gain certification during the probationary period.
- This position requires possession of a valid class C driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
