YOUR ROLE: As part of the Chemistry Operations team, your role is to support day-to-day operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and capital projects. You will gain experience with automation principles, Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) hardware and software, as well as design, procurement, commissioning, qualification, and troubleshooting equipment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
YOUR EXPERIENCE: We are seeking a dynamic self-starter with excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams to achieve objectives. An ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in automation/controls engineering and problem-solving skills. JOB OBJECTIVE: This role is meant as learning opportunity for an individual who is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Under the direction of an Automation/Controls Engineer at Promega's small molecule manufacturing facility, this person will obtain hands-on work experience by completing automation projects to improve process workflows, increase operational efficiency, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
The internship will last approximately three months, starting in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. There is some flexibility regarding start and end dates.
CORE DUTIES:
1. Plan, develop, program, and implement methods of control and automation to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and maximize efficiency.
2. Learn and utilize new technologies as appropriate to assist with engineering and improvement projects.
3. Participate in cross-functional teams to investigate and analyze automated processes and execute continuous improvement projects.
4. Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to manufacturing processes, equipment, and utility systems.
5. Review and update controlled documents to reflect changes for projects or findings from investigation activities.
6. Present project work and updates at various project team meetings.
7. Demonstrates inclusion through one's own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
2. Basic electrical circuit and problem-solving skills.
3. Proven self-starter with a record of follow-through.
4. Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills.
5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
6. Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
7. Strong safety mindset.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Prior internship or co-op experience in an automation or controls engineering role.
2. Basic knowledge of automation engineering principles and manufacturing equipment, with exposure to PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and instrumentation.
3. Familiarity with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) engineering software and tools (Studio 5000, FactoryTalk View SE) used in automation design and troubleshooting.
4. Demonstrated problem solving skills.
5. Strong interest in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Ability to use a computer/Microsoft Office applications.
2. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
3. Ability to move throughout the facility in laboratories and manufacturing suites.
4. Ability to move objects up to 20 pounds.
5. Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
