The successful candidate:

Schedule: Monday - Friday, rotating 1st and 2nd shift schedules
Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

Position Summary:

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacy operations under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. This position is fully trained and competent in a wide range of pharmacy technician responsibilities across various settings, including:

  • Inpatient/hospital pharmacy

  • Retail pharmacy

  • Purchasing and Automated Dispensing Machines (ADMs)

  • Clean room competency testing

  • Training and onboarding

  • Medication history collection

In addition, this role requires specialized knowledge in medication insurance processing-on the hospital side, retail side, or both-and regularly supports these functions. While this position does not typically have direct reports, it may assist in coordinating technician operations, especially in the absence of a direct supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (two years of college preferred)

  • Completion of courses in mathematics, typing, and general science

  • Meets all current State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensing requirements, including certification as specified in the Pharmacy Practice Act

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of pharmacy experience preferred (or equivalent), with at least 3 years in a hospital setting

  • Previous IV and chemotherapy preparation experience

  • Experience with hospital and retail pharmacy IT systems

  • Strong understanding of third-party coverage policies and reimbursement
