Job Summary

Job Summary

UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is hiring a hands-on facility technician to support operations at the Resnick Agricultural Research Facility, located in Wasco, Ca. This role will perform daily inspections, coordinate and track maintenance requests, assist with facility set-ups and moves, and help maintain a safe and functional environment. The ideal candidate will also develop expertise in irrigation systems, with the opportunity to grow into an Irrigation Lead role as the facility expands. This position is perfect for a skilled, self-motivated team player looking to advance their career in agricultural facilities management.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • 1 yr experience in minimum qualifications (KSAs).
  • Ability to conduct regular periodic rounds to inspect areas for security, fire and accident hazards and take appropriate action as required.
  • Ability to coordinate emergency repairs during and after work hours as needed.
  • Experience working with external agencies / contractors
  • Experience with facility maintenance and/or agricultural labor - irrigation experience is a plus.
  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, policies and procedures, and training documents.
  • Skills to work under pressure of deadlines in a stressful environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5yrs experience in minimum and preferred qualifications (KSAs).
  • Skills to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to apply campus policies and procedures to resolve a variety of facilities management issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and /or equivalent experience/training in facilities and/or agriculture; along with knowledge of practices and procedures relating to facility and/or field maintenance.
  • Experience working in greenhouses.
  • Experience working with irrigations systems, such as HortiMax.

Department Overview

The UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) is the largest academic unit on the Davis campus, with over 3,700 acres devoted to research and teaching. The College serves more than 7,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students, supported by 380 faculty and Cooperative Extension specialists, 250 Academic Federation appointees, and over 800 staff engaged in administration, operations, and animal and crop care. Among these is the new Resnick Agricultural Research Facility, located in Wasco, which features expansive cold storage, large greenhouses with thrip screens and airlocks, and a dedicated solar power system - providing an exciting opportunity to advance research and innovation in agricultural sciences.

The Wasco Facility Technician is responsible for performing and coordinating the daily operational, maintenance, and safety functions at the Resnick Agricultural Research Facility in Wasco, CA. This position independently conducts routine facility inspections, manages preventive and corrective maintenance for specialized systems-including cold storage, greenhouse infrastructure, irrigation, and solar power-and responds to urgent repair needs during and outside regular business hours. The incumbent serves as the primary on-site point of contact for facility operations, coordinating with contractors, vendors, university staff, and research teams to ensure timely service delivery and compliance with UC Davis standards.
The position requires developing proficiency in complex irrigation systems with opportunities to lead future expansion efforts. The technician is tasked with supporting the facility's core research, teaching, and outreach activities by upholding a safe, secure, and functional environment, minimizing disruptions, and maintaining compliance with fire, safety, and environmental regulations. The role demands independent judgment, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and close collaboration with a diverse team of faculty, students, and staff.

Work Environment
