Job Summary

The Admissions Specialist participates across multiple areas of the application season for the UCSF School of Medicine's MD Program. By applying skills as a seasoned admissions professional and project manager, the Admissions Specialist ensures timely and accurate information is delivered to all stakeholders at appropriate junctures throughout the year. In addition, the specialist reviews application materials to identify and track compliance with admissioins policies with minimal supervision.

Professional judgment is required in this role to research, develop and implement an overarching communication strategy which ensures a positive, professional impressive of the University. Planning the annual interview schedule process by incorporating a wide range of factors, critical meetings, multiple unique programmatic inputs, and applicant engagement opportunities is a critical component of this role. Support the day-to-day coordinator of interviews through process training and triaging complex tasks through to resolution or escalating critical issues to leadership is an important leadership component. The Admissions Specialist engages with the Admissions Management Portal (AMP) admissions database under guidance of senior management to aid in the complex processing of applicant data across the entire season. Finally, by recommending and implementing improvements and modifications to key processes and systems, the Admissions Specialist ensures continuous quality improvement across numerous areas of the Office of Admissions.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $63,700 - $136,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Office of Medical Education collaborates with diverse stakeholders to lead UCSF's MD Programs by promoting innovation and excellence among all learners, faculty, and staff. Together, we shape the future of patient care, research, education, and public service to improve health for all. The Office of Admissions/Student Experience Team is part of the larger Medical Education Unit. The Office of Admissions works closely with the School of Medicine Admissions Committees and unique program leadership to process over 10,000 applications annually and ultimately enroll a class of 181 new medical students annually.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum 3+ years of directly relevant experience required.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate University policies and procedures to prospective students and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all admissions stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and implement extensive strategic plans, design effective communication systems, and continuously refine and improve admissions systems and policies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the MS Office suite of applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities and timelines.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at UCSF School of Medicine.
