Job Summary

UCSF Office of Medical Education is seeking a Project and Implementation Manager who brings diverse experiences in business operations and process analysis. The incumbent specializes in the execution of strategies, as well as program and project plans. The Manager uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Works on initiatives with broad impact across the program. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes for the San Joaquin Valley Program In Medical Education Baccalaureate/MD program (SJV PRIME+).

In collaboration with SJV PRIME+ program leads and the three campuses (UCSF, UCSF Fresno, and UC Merced), the Manager focuses on the development of project plans, as well as deployment and execution of new systems, processes, or solutions for SJV PRIME+. The incumbent is responsible for translating plans and strategies into actionable steps and guiding project teams through the development and actual implementation. This includes:

  • Collaborating with project and unit leads in establishing policies and procedures and implementation of solutions in alignment with the program needs.
  • Introducing new practices, processes, and projects systematically
  • Ensuring all components are documented and put into practice effectively and smoothly.
  • Ensuring solutions function properly and identifying any potential problems to solve.
  • Providing analytic support to advance quality improvement and change management processes.
The Manager collaboratively develops and executes project, and implementation plans and manages conflicting demands, while working as part of a diverse and dynamic team. The manager will demonstrate effective interpersonal and collaborative skills to build strong working relationships with stakeholders and leaders at all levels across three campuses and external to the program. They will have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, analytical, process improvement, and independent problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a full understanding of project and change management in support of senior leaders of complex programs. To be successful the incumbent will need to possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner for multiple audiences. The candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of operational experience in which the individual has demonstrated sound judgment in working with leaders and key stakeholders to achieve program goals. This position will report to the Senior Project Manager, as well as support program and project leads on project and implementation efforts.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $102,400 - $156,000 (Annual Rate).

SJV PRIME+ leverages the power of three campuses (UCSF, UCSF Fresno, and UC Merced) to increase the size and diversity of the physician workforce that will be representative of the community they will serve. This will be achieved by:

  • Substantially increasing the number of learners from the Valley who demonstrate cultural humility accepted to medical school
  • Training and graduating 21st Century Physicians Leaders committed to serving the SJV, advocating for the patient population, and working with community partners to address existing social determinants of health
Drawing from the missions of UC Merced and UCSF, SJV PRIME+ will advance health worldwide by research/inquiry, health professions education and teaching, public service, and excellence in patient care. To achieve this mission, UC Merced and UCSF will design and implement a multi-campus SJV Baccalaureate/MD program encompassing the following:
  • Baccalaureate education and preparation for medical school at UC Merced
  • Development of an equivalent UCSF regional medical school campus
  • Design, test, and implement innovative systems of healthcare
About the Office of Medical Education
The School of Medicine's Office of Medical Education (OME) is the administrative unit that oversees all health professions education programs for the School of Medicine which includes 1,200 teaching faculty, 650 medical students, 1500 residents and fellows and 30,000 continuing education activities each year. Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of operational experience in which the individual has demonstrated sound judgment in working with leaders and key stakeholders to achieve program goals.
  • Experience implementing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to hold team meetings and perform presentations on implementations and process improvement projects.
  • Able to multi-task and manage any necessary program related escalations to meet timeline requirements and client expectations throughout the program implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner for multiple audiences.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiar with SharePoint or project management software (i.e. Smartsheet).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Experience with higher education and/or medical education.
