Job Description

PURPOSE:

Perform close tolerance machining. Set up and operate all CNC machines to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, milling, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Obtain assignments from Supervisor.
  • Obtain process sheets and tooling and/or blueprints and templates.
  • Determine setup required.
  • Follow machine manuscript for set up.
  • Set up and operate numerical controlled machines.
  • Be familiar with general numerical control theory and how system operates.
  • Be able to recognize deviations from normal sound and motion patterns of the machines.
  • Set up and operate all machines in Machine Shop including milling machines, Bullards.
  • Use precision measuring instruments in the machining of work to required tolerances.
  • Stamp and record numbers which have been removed in machining process.
  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform related duties as directed.
  • Meet all requirements and follow procedures of General Production Machine Operator.

KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING:

Requires use of job knowledge acquired over a two-year period to set up and operate all Machine Shop production machines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and process sheets. Uses wide variety of precision measuring instruments. Must have knowledge of shop mathematics. Be familiar with general numerical control theory and how system operates. SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires considerable judgment in setting up and operating Machine Shop production machines.
  • Recognize deviations from normal machine operation and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Frequent use of physical skills to operate a wide variety of machines and tools, working to close tolerances.
  • Good coordination to operate several controls simultaneously.
  • Requires deft touch, quick and precise movement.
  • Care required in machining forgings to prevent damage to the product where the loss value would be significant.
  • Must exercise considerable care in operation of complex machines to prevent damage where cost of repair would be large.
  • Must exercise a reasonable amount of care in performance of duties to avoid idle time or wasted effort of relatively low value.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS:

  • Moderate physical effort required.
  • Some set up work may be heavy.
  • Close visual concentration required to read precision measuring instruments and to observe cutting operations.
  • Normal machine shop conditions.
  • Even temperature, good lighting.

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $29.56 to $39.24 US Dollar (USD) hourly based on a variety of factors. Employees will receive 40 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 11 paid holidays. Employees (and their families) are eligible to participate in the company's medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are eligible to enroll in the Company's 401(k) plan.
