Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Program Assistant II. The successful candidate will join the Public Benefits Unit within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Program Assistant to join our Public Benefits team.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Conducting initial screenings of public assistance applications.
    Entering applicant information into the State's eligibility system and completing system checks to verify income and resources.
  • Assigning applications to Public Benefits Program Specialists for eligibility determination.
  • Providing excellent customer service by assisting applicants with completing Public Benefits applications.
  • Supporting the Public Benefits Unit with general administrative tasks, including copying, scanning, preparing electronic files, and transferring cases to other agencies.
Successful candidates will be comfortable using computers and demonstrate:
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering information into database systems.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and the public.
  • Clear and professional oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bi-lingual skills in Spanish.
Hiring salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.


Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; two (2) years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Criminal background check required. Based on assigned program area a credit and/or DMV check may also be required. For DMV check, valid driver's license and good driving record required (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).

For licensed programs, requirements include: Fingerprinting, TB test within 30 days of hire; pass Child Protective Services (CPS) check; hold or obtain First Aid/CPR certifications at hire or within four (4) months. Some programs may have additional legal requirements, credentials, or certifications to meet prior to hire or within the probationary period and/or annually.
