Position Summary

The Data Governance Director will be responsible for developing the enterprise-wide strategy, framework, and operational policies for data governance, focusing on data ownership, classification, metadata tagging, and lifecycle retention schedules. This role collaborates with functional and compliance leaders to ensure data assets are accurately categorized, properly maintained, and integrated into business operations to drive data quality and regulatory alignment.

Key Accountabilities

• Strategic Program Development & Leadership: Design, implement, and lead the enterprise data governance strategy, vision, and operational roadmap. Define program maturity metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure governance effectiveness and business value across the organization. Serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, educating business units on data governance principles.
• Data Lifecycle & Classification Architecture: Lead the design and rollout of enterprise data classification schemas, metadata tagging models, and data retention schedules. Partner with business teams to map data flows, define domain ownership, and establish business glossaries that standardize data definitions across global operations.
• Data Stewardship & Operational Governance: Establish and manage a global data stewardship model. Train and empower functional data stewards to maintain data accuracy, adhere to classification policies, and embed data governance controls into day-to-day operations.
• Regulatory Alignment & AI Governance: Serve as the subject matter expert on data governance requirements related to global data privacy and trade regulations. Support the AI governance framework by ensuring datasets used in advanced analytics and AI models meet data integrity, quality, and classification standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Data Governance Expertise: 6+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise data governance, data architecture, or data management, with demonstrated success building data classification and retention frameworks.
• Program Building: Proven track record of implementing global data governance frameworks, data glossaries, and stewardship programs with measurable business impact.
• Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of data classification, metadata management tools, data lineage, and lifecycle management principles.
• Leadership & Influence: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical governance concepts into actionable business practices.
• Education & Certifications: Bachelor's degree required. Relevant certifications in data governance (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional / CDMP, CGEIT, or DGSP) are helpful.
