Job Summary

The Outpatient Pharmacy Call Center Pharmacy Technician II serves as the primary point of contact for patients seeking assistance with prescription refills, medication overrides, insurance inquiries, and general pharmacy-related questions. Staff in this role are responsible for:

  • Answering inbound calls from patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers in a timely and professional manner.
  • Providing accurate information regarding prescription status, refill requests, and medication availability.
  • Coordinating with pharmacists and clinical staff to resolve patient concerns, including urgent medication needs.
  • Documenting patient interactions in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations while handling sensitive patient information.
  • Delivering excellent customer service by addressing patient concerns with empathy and efficiency.

This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Team members play a critical role in supporting patient care by ensuring timely access to medications and maintaining a positive patient experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Fills and delivers/dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs introductory technical tasks in specialty areas such as medication histories, sterile and non-sterile preparation, payer adjudication, call center, clinical pharmacy support, inventory management including controlled substance handling and accountability, and repackaging. Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information. (50%)

  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed. (30%)

  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care. Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately. (20%)

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required and

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program completion of a pharmacy technician training program, preferred

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years At least one year of pharmacy technician in a healthcare or retail setting Required

Licenses:

  • CPHT-Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Required and

  • PHAT-Licensed Pharmacy Technician - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work as a team member

  • Attention to detail

  • Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures

  • Mathematical computation skills

  • Organization and communication skills

  • Good typing, keyboarding and proofreading skills

  • Ability to work independently within pharmacy scope of practice

  • Knowledge of prescription processing and third-party billing, if applicable

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, preferred
