Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures supports students in their academic and professional pursuits in Communication and Language Studies. We offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication and Media Studies, Spanish, and Spanish with Teaching Licensure (K-12). In addition, we offer minors in Communication, Spanish, Chinese, and eSports. Our department provides high-impact instruction, practical experience, and effective advising. We offer state-of-the-art facilities, including a radio station, a television studio, a multimedia production lab, a podcast studio, a newsroom, a language lab, and an eSports lab. Our mission is to equip graduates with practical skills and knowledge for successful graduate studies and career advancement.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Department Chair serve as the administrator of their respective academic units. They are responsible for the daily operation of their programs as well as long-term planning, scheduling, and curriculum development. In addition, the chair's primary duties include managing the department's budget and seeking external funding; recruiting and hiring faculty and staff; evaluating their performance; advising and assisting students; producing various reports for the Dean's Office; and providing vision and leadership to the Department.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or MFA) in communication, media studies, a related field of communication, language education, or a world language offered by the Department from an accredited college or university. In addition, must have a record of excellence in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of a tenured Associate or Full Professor.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Have knowledge of academic programs within the department in terms of curriculum requirements, academic rules and guidelines, procedures, operations, and management, and excellent communication, customer service, and human relations skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with administrative academic leadership, acquisition of extramural grant funding.
