JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems at Penn State University Park invites applications for 1 part-time teaching assistant for Dr. Serkan Yilmaz to start January 2026. The successful candidate may expect an average of 10 hours of work per week throughout the regular academic calendar.

Job Duties

  • Support faculty to make sure all sections in SCM497 - Lean Six Sigma, Data Analytics and Problem Solution Class Aligned and Running Smoothly
  • Be the go-to resource and support, mentor students for class homeworks, and final projects
  • Organize TA office hours and available either via zoom or physically 3 hours a week
  • Be available in the classroom whenever required, final project presentations, and exams days to support faculty and guide/coach students.
  • Need to have knowledge to perform class review sessions, if requested to support the faculty.
  • Need to have excellent communications skills with students
  • Support faculty to organize and update course CANVAS page as needed
  • Help faculty to create for successful course completion certifications.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate students must take SCM497 course previously and passed with grade A and successfully completed final projects.
  • Priority will be given to students who needs urgent funding and motivated to work as TA for the semester to support their research and graduation goals
  • Industrial Engineering Graduate Students are preferred.
  • Supply Chain and Information System Major Senior students can be considered.
  • Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Service Operations, Optimization, Product Development Life Cycle background or experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Spreadsheets, Minitab and Data Visualization Tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qliksense are preferred.
  • Need to have continuous improvement and lean mindset, bring ideas to improve the class.
  • Minimum 3.50/4.00 GPA is required.

Compensation

The starting rate for this position is $16.00 per hour.
