Job Description

We believe in using quality ingredients to make quality food, and we work with local farmers and use produce from our onsite garden to develop our menus. YOUR ROLE: As a Line Cook, you are a vital part of our culinary operations. You get the opportunity to work with variety of unique products and ingredients that focus on seasonally and locally available items, many of which are grown onsite. You plan, prep, and execute dishes in a fun and fast-paced environment. You bring your diverse viewpoint to the team so we can respectfully celebrate different cultures and cuisines and ensure a variety of options for staff and guests. You share your skills with other cooks and chefs in the kitchen and you enjoy learning from your teammates, as well. You communicate with other colleagues in the kitchen for needs based on timing and readiness.

You interact with customers and make sure they have the best service possible. No more weekends or holidays - you will be working daytime hours, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with the ability to work with onsite culinary garden produce!

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Line Cook supports daily culinary operations by preparing high-quality dishes in accordance with established recipes, standards, and presentation guidelines. This role ensures consistency, accuracy, and timeliness in food preparation while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. The Line Cook contributes to a positive team culture by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Prepares menu items according to established recipes, quality standards, and presentation expectations.

2. Sets up, stocks, and maintains assigned workstation to ensure readiness for service.

3. Follows proper food handling, labeling, storage, and stock rotation procedures.

4. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with health and safety regulations.

5. Assists with routine maintenance and proper care of kitchen equipment, communicating any issues promptly.

6. Works collaboratively with culinary leadership, and broader culinary team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.

7. Participates in team meetings and contributes to an environment of open communication, mutual respect, and inclusion.

8. Engages in ongoing skill development and training opportunities to enhance culinary technique and workstation performance.

9. Supports a positive work environment by demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and a strong work ethic.

10. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.

11. Embraces and is open to incorporating Promega's 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.

12. Understands and complies with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 2-4 years of professional kitchen experience or equivalent culinary training.

2. Strong understanding of cooking techniques, proper knife skills, and safe food-handling practices.

3. Ability to follow recipes and execute dishes with consistency and accuracy.

4. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.

5. Ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm and efficient during high-pressure service periods.

6. Professional demeanor with the ability to accept direction and feedback.

7. Ability to work evenings as needed to support scheduled events.

8. Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and technology, including Microsoft applications and mobile platforms, with the ability to adapt and leverage emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to improve efficiency, automation, and collaboration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Familiarity with local, seasonal, and sustainable food practices.

2. Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) or willingness to obtain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while working in a kitchen environment.

2. Ability to move efficiently between buildings on our campus.

3. Capability to move or position items weighing up to 50 pounds as needed.

4. Ability to drive on behalf of the organization and hold a valid driver's license.
