Job Summary

Please note: this will be for a duration through June 15, 2026; possible extension. 32-40 hours per week; will require work in the Los Angeles area (Compton), Monterey, or Bay Area.

Must have Spanish language fluency.

Uses professional community educational program concepts to support delivery of standardized educational and volunteer educational programs for the Multitudes early literacy initiative. Applies established procedures and protocols to assist with program implementation needs that are limited in scope. Follows standard practices in collecting and organizing participant data, supporting program delivery, and assisting with outreach to Spanish-speaking communities. Receives detailed instructions on all assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts standardized data collection sessions with participating children and families, including administering Spanish-language assessments using established Multitudes protocols.

• Prepares and delivers standardized community education activities under direct supervision, including supporting Spanish-speaking families' participation in the program.

• Researches participant data and maintains accurate records to enhance program delivery and ensure high-quality data collection outcomes.

• Tracks and maintains program-related paperwork, inventory, and activity reports, ensuring adherence to study procedures and confidentiality requirements.

• Assists with planning special events in collaboration with program leadership and community partners, and helps establish relationships with new Spanish-speaking partners.

• Participates in required training on Multitudes protocols, community engagement, and data collection procedures to maintain programmatic competence.

Department Description

The UCSF Dyslexia Center is developing a new digital tool, Multitudes. Free for all California public schools, this platform aids in the early identification of Kindergarten and First Grade students who may face challenges learning to read. Early identification can lead to early intervention. With the right support, more California students can learn to read with greater ease, leading to more equitable educational and health outcomes. Multitudes is led by the part of the Dyslexia Center located in the ALBA Language Neurobiology lab.

The ALBA Language Neurobiology laboratory in the UCSF Neurology Department's Memory and Aging Center is directed by Dr. Maria Luisa Gorno Tempini. We study how language is organized into brain networks across the lifespan. Our group researches how language skills and brain regions are impacted by neurological conditions and how they reorganize in response. Our multidisciplinary team correlates behavioral research with multimodal neuroimaging techniques to understand the neural underpinning of higher cognitive functions such as speech, language, and memory. In particular, we research two syndromes: Primary Progressive Aphasia and Dyslexia.

Dr. Gorno Tempini is also co-director of the UCSF Dyslexia Center and the UCSF|UC Berkeley Schwab Center for Dyslexia and Cognitive Diversity. These centers aim to eliminate the debilitating effects of developmental dyslexia while supporting the relative strengths of each individual. We develop best practice protocols to assess and diagnose children with dyslexia and other learning differences through a multimodal cognitive and neuroimaging program. We work closely with schools and educators to develop early interventions and educational strategies to help children with dyslexia thrive

Required Qualifications

• Coursework or work experience in a related area.

• Continuing education in a related field required.

• Fluency in Spanish and English, including the ability to communicate clearly with families and community partners in both languages.

• Knowledge or experience related to program content and program objectives, including community-based education or early childhood or elementary school programs.

• Organizational skills to develop a basic project plan, monitor activities against deadlines, and review and analyze results.

• Basic reading, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

• Ability to maintain positive interactions with others and work cooperatively in a team environment.

• Experience using business software systems (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and web-based applications to complete work assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of how to deliver educational programs in a variety of community settings.

• Experience working with families, schools, or community organizations in linguistically diverse settings.

• Experience administering assessments or conducting structured data collection.
