Overview

The Superintendent - Field Safety Observers is responsible for leading, supervising, and coordinating Field Safety Observers to ensure consistent execution of safety programs across active job sites. This role provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and oversight to drive a strong safety culture, regulatory compliance, and proactive hazard mitigation in field operations.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Field Safety Observers across multiple job sites to ensure consistent application of safety standards, procedures, and expectations.
  • Serve as the primary field-level safety leader, reinforcing a culture of accountability, situational awareness, and continuous improvement.
  • Reviews and coordinates Field Safety Observers weekly field schedule to ensure effective deployment of resources
  • Develops and maintains collaborative working relationship with IBEW leadership and Business Representatives
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, client, and company safety requirements through active field presence, audits, and inspections.
  • Coach and mentor Field Safety Observers to improve observational quality, hazard identification, and effective communication with field crews and supervision.
  • Coordinate with project management, superintendents, and operations leadership to proactively address safety risks and operational concerns.
  • Review and analyze safety observations, near misses, and incident trends; recommend corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up corrective actions.
  • Conducts weekly safety/coordination/lessons learned meetings with Field Safety Observers to ensure best practices
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of safety documentation, reports, and required records.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Support training initiatives and onboarding of new Field Safety Observers and field personnel.
  • Reviews and approves time and expense reports to ensure accuracy

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of field experience in construction, utilities, energy, or industrial operations, with a strong emphasis on safety leadership.
  • Prior experience supervising or leading safety personnel or field crews.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in active field environments and across multiple job sites.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regionally as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established network and credibility with Local 1245 leadership and lineman community.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to scale workforce operations during ramp-up periods.
  • Hands-on leadership style-comfortable being in the field, mentoring crews, and addressing challenges in real time.
  • Passion for driving a culture of ownership, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • OSHA 30 (or higher) certification.
  • Safety certifications such as CHST, CSP, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting utility, transmission & distribution, or large-scale infrastructure projects.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor field environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders or structures as required, and wear required PPE.
  • Ability to travel to multiple job sites as needed.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range

USD $195,000.00 - USD $225,000.00 /Yr.
