Department Summary The Facilities department oversees all aspects of building maintenance and infrastructure on main campus as well as our Law Center in downtown Dallas- totaling over 300,000 square-feet of conditioned space. The department consists of two divisions: Facilities Operations and Custodial Services. Position Overview Lead Facilities Technician is responsible for assisting the Facilities Director in scheduling and completing the following tasks. These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in positions allocated to this position. Minimum Qualifications The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in related maintenance/repair field. Substitution of education for experience allowed. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of and skill in use of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance task Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance Knowledge of blueprints, schematics, and working drawings Ability to use basic shop math applications Ability to locate and identify problems in appropriate building system or equipment and to plan and execute necessary repairs Physical ability to perform moderately heavy physical work which includes lifting and crawling, and to remain outdoors in inclement weather Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed Valid drivers license and ability to drive a vehicle, and maintain coverage under University auto insurance policy, if required to drive university vehicles. Provides a point of contact and oversees maintenance work as needed. Maintains good working relationships with facilities staff and all University staff and coordinates operations with other departments and other institutions when necessary. Ability to manage and supervise the work of others. Required License/Registration/Certifications Job Duties Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair MEP equipment at the downtown Dallas location. Inspect and verify satisfactory completion of work by contractors and others. Able to perform routine maintenance to electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. Ability to operate computer based Building Management System. Ability to operate and reset Fire Alarm system, Fire Sprinkler System, Fire Pump, Stair Pressurization fans, smoke curtains, fire dampers, etc. Willingness to work overtime and unconventional hourly schedules. Willingness to perform other duties and tasks as assigned. Physical Requirements Communicating with others to exchange information. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds.Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds. Lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds or more. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Moving self in various positions to perform tasks in tight and confined spaces. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Environmental Hazards No adverse environmental conditions expected. Elevated temperatures. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Exposure to moving mechanical parts or vibration. Low temperatures. Noisy environments. Outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Small and/or enclosed spaces. Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
