What You Will Be Doing

Manages the delivery of all Legal Personnel and Development processes and programs for lawyers in the Washington, DC office. Build and manages relationships with lawyers to ensure successful programs and projects for the office.


The Legal Personnel Manager works collaboratively with the broader Legal Personnel and Development Department, including the Director of Legal Personnel and Development and the Firmwide Manager, Legal Personnel and Attorney Processes, to achieve the Firm's talent management goals and objectives.

About this Role:

Legal Personnel



  • Collaborates directly with firm management in the implementation of lawyer evaluation, retention, compensation and promotion programs and processes in the Washington, DC office and ensures excellent delivery of services through the Career Advancement Program.
  • Manages the semi-annual Associate, Senior Associate and Counsel review process. Semi-annual process includes working with Partners to review the collected feedback for lawyers from their respective practices, develop and facilitate Partner and Associate summary messages and delivery meetings, and follow-up with lawyers requiring coaching, mentoring, or training.
  • Serves as the main point of contact in Washington, DC for attorney onboarding, integration, promotion, transfers, offboarding and outplacement programs and efforts. Collaborates with department and office leadership regarding lawyer headcount in the Washington, DC office.
  • Responsible for counseling and managing all lawyer leaves and part-time arrangements.
  • Oversees local team support of various committees including the Washington DC Parent's Group and the Associates Committee Task Force (ACTF). Will participate in meetings with lawyers and contribute to achieving the committee's goals and objectives.
  • Handles employee relations issues, serving as a resource and providing counsel, when appropriate, to all attorneys on personnel issues, leaves, career questions and employee relations matters.


General Responsibilities



  • Ensures and manages effectiveness of localized implementation of the firm's strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Creates and manages the Washington, DC Legal Personnel & Development budget to ensure a smart and flexible expense budget for the Washington, DC office aligned with the firm's strategic goals, objectives and initiatives.
  • In coordination with the department leadership, as appropriate, hires, develops, evaluates, and compensates the Legal Personnel & Development team in Washington, DC.
  • Assesses current industry trends and innovations in the Legal Personnel and Development space. Makes recommendations with regards to new programs and practices as applicable.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned, including the management of various firm wide and/or department wide projects.

  • Ability to work in a team environment is critical. Motivation and drive are important.
  • Successful time management skills are required.
  • Strong technical skills on the following applications preferred: Excel, PowerPoint, Oracle and viDesktop.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; excellent attention to detail; ability to take initiative and work independently.



Education:



  • Bachelor's degree required.



Experience:



  • Prefer 8 years' relevant legal, personnel or recruitment experience, along with prior management experience required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legal profession and law firm structures.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion with confidential communications.
  • Prior experience managing a team.
