Group 72 - Fabrication Engineering

The Fabrication Engineering Group provides rapid fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications. Examples include the precision machining of fiber mounts for airborne high energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals. The group concentrates on high-complexity parts, quick-turn capabilities and activities that require concurrent engineering with program teams. Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining. Core PCB capabilities include automated solder paste dispensers, precise pick-n-place machines, and automated optical inspection systems. Assembly, integration, and test capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers. The Group focuses on state-of-the-art fabrication, operational proficiency, technical excellence and exceptional collaboration.

Position Description

The Group seeks a talented, creative, and motivated individual to strengthen the Group's ability to provide rapid and innovative solutions to challenging fabrication problems. The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including program team members, shop area leads and the production control team to optimize and effectively execute shop operations. He/ she will partner closely with the production control manager to continuously improve fabrication / procurement effectiveness including supply chain management. Specific job functions may include:

  • Coordinate with multi-faceted cross-functional team and program contacts to align execution plan to program and technical needs
  • Support program management considering cost, schedule, performance, scope and risk
  • Develop program fabrication plans that involve advanced procurement, production planning, and development of prototype systems that demonstrate advanced technology
  • Utilize planning tools to provide capacity analysis, cost, and schedule estimates to group and programs
  • Partner with the production control team manager to continuously improve operations through a focus on quality, cost and schedule

      • Optimize fabrication / procurement processes including supply chain management
      • Identify opportunities for process improvements and manage projects related to fabrication, procurement, and project planning
      • Develop and document best practices for fabrication / procurement processes
      • Determine and maintain efficient execution of priority / production shop meetings
      • Help improve quality and on-time delivery through key performance indices
      • Identify high priority parts, resolve resource conflicts, and drive issues to closure
      • Work with the team to standardize and communicate overall quality status and help analyze demand forecast information based on input from program teams

Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in operations management, supply chain management or equivalent technical degree or Bachelor's degree with 5-years of relevant experience

    • Proven leadership skills and ability to thrive in a team environment
