Join us as a Manufacturing Engineer I and help shape the future of medical device manufacturing. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their engineering career who is excited to solve problems, collaborate with vendors, and support the development of high-quality medical instruments. What will you be doing?

  • Providing engineering and technical support for medical instruments manufactured by external vendors, including equipment, processes and process documentation
  • Offering production support by troubleshooting, implementing process improvements, updating documentation and training operators
  • Supporting quality activities including CAPA, NCR and root cause investigations
  • Leading and contributing to projects with outside vendors including automation initiatives, process improvements, and operational excellence activities
  • Using machining knowledge including swiss lathes and vertical machining centers
  • Designing and building assembly fixturing using SolidWorks
  • Supporting automation initiatives using collaborative robots
  • Applying strong software skills including Minitab and Power BI
  • Creating clear and accurate technical documentation including work instructions and validation materials
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally as needed in support of engineering and production activities

What will you need to be successful?

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering

Experience:

  • Zero to two years of experience in an engineering environment

Knowledge:

  • Technical writing skills and proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Experience or knowledge in machining and fixturing

Competences:

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and external vendors
  • Curiosity, motivation and willingness to learn new technologies and processes

Compensation

Smith+Nephew is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The anticipated base salary range for this position is USD 75,250.00 to USD112,750.00. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
