Corporate Safety Director Position Summary: The Corporate Safety Director leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's comprehensive safety and health programs. This strategic role ensures full regulatory compliance (including OSHA, USACE EM 385-1-1, and other applicable standards), drives a proactive safety culture, and minimizes risk across office and field operations. Salary: $145-$175k/annually Reports To: COO Essential Responsibilities: * Corporate Safety Program Leadership Develop, maintain, annually review, and update the Corporate Health & Safety Plan (CH&SP) to ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and evolving regulations. Monitor regulatory changes and revise the CH&SP accordingly. Distribute updated plans and obtain employee acknowledgments at least annually. Create, review, and support additional company-wide safety policies to build a robust, unified safety framework. * Project Safety Support Partner with project teams to enforce contract-specific safety requirements. Establish company minimum standards for personnel training, certifications, and site safety plans where contracts are silent. Design and execute a tailored safety audit program for each project type to verify adherence and drive continuous improvement. * Subcontractor Safety Management Collaborate with procurement, estimating/proposals, and project teams to vet subcontractors for safety performance and compliance. Oversee subcontractor monitoring throughout project lifecycles, incorporate subcontractor audits into site inspections, document findings, and ensure timely corrective actions and follow-up. * Regulatory Compliance & Incident Management Maintain company-wide adherence to all relevant safety regulations and industry standards. Oversee proper reporting, documentation, investigation, and tracking of all safety incidents using approved systems. Prepare designated personnel to interact confidently and effectively with OSHA inspectors and other regulators. Provide HR with recommendations on personnel non-compliance issues. * Safety Performance Analytics & Reporting Monitor and analyze safety metrics, trends, and historical data. Prepare insightful reports and presentations for executive leadership and the board. Leverage data insights to refine safety briefings, training content, and risk mitigation strategies, prioritizing high-frequency and high-severity incident types. * Training & Competency Development Design and deliver effective safety training programs that reinforce a strong safety culture and reduce risk exposure. Define position-specific minimum training requirements across the organization. Maintain a centralized, up-to-date tracking system for all employee training records (including types, completion dates, recertification deadlines, and certificates), ensuring accessibility for authorized personnel. * Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program Develop, implement, and periodically update the company's PPE policy in collaboration with Entity Presidents, Operations, and Business Units. Customize PPE requirements to match task-specific hazards. Ensure appropriate PPE is provided, readily available, and compliant with policy and regulatory standards. * Incident Investigation & Lessons Learned Direct thorough investigation of all incidents and near-misses, including root cause analysis. Ensure incidents are reported promptly, documented fully, and closed out only after corrective actions are implemented. Develop and distribute lessons-learned summaries and ensure follow-through per CH&SP and company policies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * In-depth and strong knowledge of OSHA standards, EM 385-1-1, and other applicable federal, state, and industry safety regulations. * Proven leadership ability to influence teams, build safety culture, and communicate complex safety concepts clearly and persuasively. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify hazards, interpret data, and implement effective controls. * Excellent organizational and project management skills to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Education & Certifications: * Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental health, engineering, or a related field preferred. Must have at least 12 years of experience or Extensive Experience in safety program management, preferably in construction, industrial, or heavy operations settings. Experience in managing office safety programs is a plus (or required). An equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Professional certifications are strongly preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)). Working Conditions: The role is a combination of office-based work and field/site visits. 25% travel is required.
