The Industrial Waste Technical (IWT) Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical review, classification, and regulatory approval of industrial waste streams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient disposal. This role serves as the primary authority for evaluating generator-provided information against applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including RCRA, TSCA, NESHAP, and other governing requirements. The IWT Manager exercises professional judgment to determine waste acceptance, request additional characterization data when necessary, and impose handling restrictions or special conditions to mitigate risk and ensure operational safety. Leveraging strong technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and attention to detail, the IWT Manager supports landfill operations, advises internal stakeholders on waste acceptance policies, and ensures defensible, compliant waste determinations while meeting operational and regulatory deadlines.

Responsibilities of Position:



  • Evaluate and approve industrial waste streams by reviewing generator-provided information and determining acceptance based on applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with environmental laws and regulations (including RCRA, TSCA, NESHAP, FIFRA, PCB regulations, and state-specific rules) throughout the waste characterization and acceptance process
  • Perform accurate waste characterization and determinations, including identifying hazardous, PCB, radioactive, infectious, and regulated solid wastes and assessing potential regulatory thresholds
  • Request, review, and interpret analytical data and supporting documentation (e.g., laboratory results, SDSs, and generator knowledge) necessary to support compliant and defensible waste determinations
  • Establish and enforce waste handling restrictions, conditions, or special requirements to ensure safe transportation, handling, and disposal of industrial waste streams
  • Serve as the technical authority for waste acceptance policies and procedures, advising operations and resolving discrepancies or non-conformances related to waste profiles
  • Provide technical guidance and regulatory interpretation by independently researching, interpreting, and applying regulatory guidance to evolving waste streams and operational challenges
  • Support landfill and disposal operations by ensuring waste acceptance decisions align with operational capabilities and regulatory permit requirements
  • Communicate waste profile requirements and technical limitations to internal stakeholders, including sales, operations, and management, to ensure accurate representation and compliance
  • Manage workload, documentation, and review timelines effectively, maintaining a high level of attention to detail while meeting established deadlines and audit-ready documentation standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned



Supervisory Responsibility:



  • This position will not manage employees



Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:



  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication; skilled in preparing reports, documentation, and presenting information to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external teams
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in reporting, compliance reviews, and documentation



Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:



  • Solid knowledge of RCRA, NESHAP, TSCA, FIFRA, and other environmental laws impacting waste disposal
  • Familiarity with landfill operations and understanding of state and federal regulatory operational requirements
  • Working knowledge of environmental sampling methods, waste characterization, and analytical testing methods
  • 3 years of experience in waste industry
  • Bachelor of Science degree



Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:



  • Frequently lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
  • Rarely working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Rarely working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Rarely stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Rarely climbing and/or balancing
  • Continuously sitting
  • Frequently standing/walking



Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:



  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • Must not have any DUI's or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
