JOB TITLE: Turbine and Generator Program Manager REQUISITION: FOS00IN DEPARTMENT: Generation Engineering Services - Kansas City Headquarters or Topeka General Office LOCATION: Kansas City, MO Topeka, KS PAY RANGE: Staff Level: $93,400 - $116,800 - $140,200 Senior Level: $94,600 - $126,100 - $157,600 Lead Level: $111,400 - $148,500 - $185,600 Principal Level: $116,200 - $154,900 - $193,600 Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. However, hours can be irregular. Nights, weekends, and extra hours will be required as plant conditions dictate. Travel will be required in support of the Energy Centers. Additional overnight travel may be required. Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: The candidate will serve as a strategic technical leader, driving safe, reliable operations and maintenance of steam and combustion turbines and generators across the Evergy Generation Fleet. Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Maintain organized, fleetwide databases of OEM Technical Information Letters, Service Bulletins, and other technical documents to strengthen maintenance and reliability programs. * Develop and update standardized overhaul scopes for turbines, generators, and exciters, incorporating technical requirements, inspection insights, and best practices. * Analyze historical overhaul and inspection reports, carry forward outstanding findings, and support site engineers in finalizing outage scopes. * Troubleshoot turbine and generator operational issues, delivering clear technical recommendations, corrective actions, and guidance to engineering, operations, and maintenance teams. * Periodically manage turbine overhaul projects, including scope development, planning, contractor coordination, schedule integration, and postoutage followup. * Establish and manage contractor alliance agreements to ensure outage budgets, resource needs, and schedule objectives are consistently met. * Lead Evergy's Turbine & Generator Health Management Program, overseeing condition monitoring, risk prioritization, and longrange reliability strategy development. * Contribute to annual and longrange capital budgeting by providing technical justification based on equipment condition, reliability risk, and lifecycle planning.
Education and Experience Requirements: This role requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, mechanical engineering preferred, with handson experience in the design, operation, or maintenance of steam and combustion gas turbines, generators, and exciters. At least 4 years of experience in the design, operation and/or maintenance of steam and combustion gas turbines including generators and exciters is preferred. Familiarity with GE, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Siemens (Westinghouse) turbine and generator technologies is highly valued, along with strong troubleshooting capabilities. OEM certifications are preferred. The ideal candidate demonstrates high initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and solid proficiency with computer-based tools. Candidates without a bachelor's degree in engineering may be considered if they have at least 10 years experience in OEM field service for the Program Manager role. Additional Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: * Strong technical expertise in steam and combustion turbine and generator design, operation, and maintenance practices. * Knowledgeable in alignment practices, bearing vibration, electrohydraulic controls, and rotor stress analysis. * Skilled at interpreting control logics and trending historical data to identify issues and drive reliability improvements. * Proficient in developing, maintaining, and applying standard overhaul specifications, OEM technical bulletins, and Technical Information Letters (TILs). * Experienced in planning and managing turbine overhaul projects, including scope definition, contractor coordination, schedule control, and execution oversight. * Capable of leading fleetwide turbine and generator health management programs, including condition assessment and lifecycle strategy development. * Strong analytical abilities to support capital budgeting, technical justification, and longrange reliability forecasting. * Adept at building and managing technical documentation systems and engineering databases. * Effective communication and leadership skills to guide project teams, collaborate with plants and OEMs, and influence technical decisions across the organization. * Expected to model Evergy's Talent Framework Behaviors, the foundation for HOW we do our jobs at Evergy. EIT or PE is preferred Working Conditions: Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job. Requires a balance of onsite plant work and office work. Requires the ability to work outdoors and in an industrial plant environment including, but not limited to, exposure to ambient temperature extremes, dusty/moist environments, climbing ladders and stairways, working at heights on elevated structures and platforms, and working in cramped spaces occasionally which may require bending, stooping, and standing.
