Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Space Planner - Space Management.

Reporting to the Director of Campus Planning, the Space Planner is responsible for the definition, analysis, concept development, and production of planning and predesign studies that meet a broad range of NYU Langone Health System objectives, centered primarily on the NYU Langone Health campuses, and related ambulatory and off-site facilities in geographic proximity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages space requests and space allocations to achieve efficient utilization of campus space
  • Identifies short and long-term space solutions for pressing clinical, academic and administrative space needs in the context of the long-range campus master planning efforts.
  • Supports and administers campus space policies
  • Conducts space audits, provides expert analyses regarding space utilization, MACs (move-add-change), scenarios, and collaborates closely with campus partners to coordinate efforts
  • Collaborates and supports the ongoing use of the Integrated Workspace Management System (IWMS) to support campus and enterprise-wide space management and planning efforts at the departmental and enterprise levels.
  • Maintains space database current in the IWMS to support Campus Planning Office space reporting responsibilities internally and externally
  • Coordinates the campus-based master plans with the strategic master plan for NYU Langone Health Systems
  • Identifies and documents the functional, space, regulatory and infrastructure requirements for planning and predesign studies, and prepares conceptual diagrams, floor plans and other visuals for client presentations, internal reviews and decision making.
  • Organizes quantitative information to develop functional program documents that include information about potential occupants, space requirements, and other areas for planning studies.
  • Produces with this information space planning options, stacking diagrams and scenarios in graphic formats that are conducive to professional analysis and presentation to RED+F partners.

In addition to support potential capital projects, the Space Planner is responsible for generating graphic documents for a broad range of campuswide planning initiatives and studies, reports, surveys, as well as analyzing and formatting space database information for use in planning studies and reports. The Space Planner should be familiar with industry standards and best practices and be capable of applying them to planning standards and guidelines appropriate to the institution. Working with the Senior Program Directors for capital projects, and the Campus Planning team, the Space Planner is responsible for prioritizing and managing planning studies under their direction. She/he is responsible for communicating directly with RED+F partners, personnel, and consultants on the status, production, and content of planning studies as required in the course of their duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required in Architecture, Planning, Facilities Management, Interiors, or similar
  • Ten yearsexperience in space planning, architecture, facilities management, real estate, or space information management
  • Five years related experience in architectural planning and design
  • Two years practical CADD experience
  • Specialization in general campus planning and a minimum of one of the following types of facilities: healthcare, education, administrative, or research.
  • A high degree of competency is required in CAD and graphics software packages, including Integrated Workplace Information Management (IWMS) or Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) systems such as Planon or Archibus, as well as Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Word, Project, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Highly organized and motivated, and capable of working on several initiatives simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of space planning standards and experience with 3D modeling software for conceptual planning and predesign studies is highly desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical skills and creative vision are required.
  • The ability to work with a broad range of institutional clients and develop positive client relations is required.
  • The ability to partner closely within Campus Planning members and RED+F units in a collaborative team environment, and have a proactive approach to the definition and production of work products is essential.
  • Capacity and initiative to function independently, assuming ownership and responsibility for projects and the ability to follow-through on assignments without regular supervision or prompting.
  • Leadership to drive assignments and work collaboratively with diverse, cross-functional teams to achieve common objectives and deliver results.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize work, and manage timelines.
  • Proficiency with all the technology involved to communicate and reach our constituents in a manner that is open, accessible, and clear.
  • Discipline, maturity, and composure necessary to perform professionally within a demanding environment and navigate a challenging and ever-changing landscape.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84,577.92 - $111,300.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
